ERA Narrows Annual Loss Amid Focus on Mine Rehabilitation
21.03.2026 - 01:56:17 | boerse-global.deEnergy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) reported a significantly reduced net loss for its 2025 fiscal year, even as the company remains almost entirely dedicated to the costly rehabilitation of its Ranger Project area. With no active uranium production, ERA's financial stability continues to rely heavily on support from its majority shareholder, mining giant Rio Tinto.
Financial Performance Shows Improvement
The company managed to slash its comprehensive net loss dramatically, from approximately $246 million in 2024 down to about $50.3 million. This positive shift was partly driven by a $32 million benefit from adjustments to provisions for site restoration work. Revenue from continuing operations also saw a substantial increase, rising to nearly $58.9 million from $37.2 million a year earlier.
Rehabilitation Efforts Strain Liquidity
Despite the improved bottom line, operational cash flow remained deeply negative at -$192.2 million. The technical challenges of decommissioning the site in Australia's Northern Territory are considerable. Work has encountered delays, including slower-than-expected drying of tailings material for the cover of "Pit 3." Furthermore, the commissioning timeline for a critical water treatment system, the "Brine Squeezer," has been pushed back to mid-2026.
The long-term funding for rehabilitation, required through the third quarter of 2027, appears secured for now. This follows a capital raising initiative completed in November 2024 that garnered 766 million Australian dollars.

Ownership Consolidation on the Horizon
The corporate strategy is now shaped by an impending change in ownership structure. Rio Tinto, which currently holds over 98% of ERA's shares, has initiated compulsory acquisition proceedings for the remaining stock. This squeeze-out is pending final court approval.
With its financial backing in place, ERA's sole focus remains on meeting regulatory obligations and safely completing the site rehabilitation. A return to uranium mining is not currently under consideration.
