A pivotal moment for Energy Fuels Inc. is approaching in late March 2026. The company is on the cusp of making a final investment decision (FID) regarding its Donald rare earths project in Australia, a move that would solidify its broader strategic ambitions in the sector.

Financial Strength and Market Expectations

The company enters this decisive period from a position of financial strength. As of the end of 2025, Energy Fuels reported holding cash and marketable securities totaling $862 million, with total assets standing at $1.4 billion. This robust balance sheet provides significant flexibility for upcoming capital commitments.

However, the market has already priced in substantial growth expectations. The stock currently trades at nearly 28 times its forward price-to-sales ratio, a significant premium compared to the S&P 500's multiple of 4.97x. Investors will be closely watching the company's execution on several imminent milestones to justify this valuation.

The Donald Project: A Shovel-Ready Venture

At the heart of the near-term strategy is the Donald Project, a joint venture in Australia. All necessary regulatory approvals are secured, and incoming CEO Ross Bhappu has confirmed the project is "shovel-ready." The final commitment to invest is anticipated by the end of March 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Energy Fuels?

While Energy Fuels holds a 49% interest in the venture, it is entitled to 100% of the rare earth concentrates produced. The plan is for the site to begin delivering feedstock to the company's White Mesa Mill in Utah by late 2027 or early 2028. Projected annual output is between 7,000 and 8,000 tons of concentrate, containing approximately 990 tons of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) oxide, 84 tons of dysprosium oxide, and 14 tons of terbium oxide. Total project financing is estimated at around $340 million, with conditional support available from Export Finance Australia.

Vertical Integration Through Acquisition

Running in parallel is the planned acquisition of ASM, a transaction designed to extend Energy Fuels' reach downstream from oxide separation into metal and alloy processing. On March 12, 2026, the terms were adjusted, replacing a proposed special ASM dividend with a direct cash payment of A$0.13 per share to ASM shareholders. A scheme meeting is scheduled for late May or early June 2026, with completion targeted for the first half of the year.

Operational Momentum Across the Board

The White Mesa Mill continues to be a core operational asset. In December 2025, uranium production reached 350,000 pounds, a performance level that is expected to help absorb costs throughout 2026. For the full year, management anticipates uranium production (U3O8) of 2.0 to 2.5 million pounds, with gross margins potentially exceeding 50% if uranium prices strengthen.

Energy Fuels at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Furthermore, the commercialization of heavy rare earth elements is advancing. The White Mesa Mill is scheduled to begin commercial production of dysprosium and terbium oxides in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company has already distinguished itself as the first U.S. producer to report commercial-grade dysprosium output meeting a 99.9% purity specification.

The convergence of the Donald FID, the ASM shareholder vote, and the initiation of heavy rare earth production sets the stage for a transformative period, where market expectations will be measured against tangible operational progress.
