Element 25 Positions Itself as a Key Player in the EV Battery Supply Chain
02.04.2026 - 01:37:51 | boerse-global.de
The Australian mining firm Element 25 is executing a strategic pivot, transforming from a pure-play miner into a specialized supplier for the electric vehicle industry. This shift is being powered by a dual-pronged expansion: scaling up its core mining operation in Western Australia and establishing a new processing facility in the United States. The company's strategic relevance is underscored by significant backing from automotive giants General Motors and Stellantis.
Financial Backing and U.S. Strategic Move
A robust financial framework supports Element 25's global ambitions. The cornerstone is a $166 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. This is complemented by $115 million in strategic support from General Motors and Stellantis. Further strengthening its capital base, the company has secured a A$50 million credit facility from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) and raised an additional A$10 million through an equity placement.
This capital is crucial for the construction of a high-purity manganese sulphate (HPMSM) plant in Louisiana. This facility is designed to produce a critical component directly for EV battery cathodes, and the project benefits from substantial political and financial support, embedding the company firmly into the North American supply chain.

Major Expansion at the Butcherbird Project
Concurrently, Element 25 is undertaking a significant production scale-up at its Butcherbird manganese project in Western Australia. The goal is to achieve an annual output of 1.1 million tonnes of manganese concentrate. With updated ore reserves exceeding 100 million tonnes, the operation now has a projected mine life of at least 18 years. All necessary regulatory approvals are in place, and key equipment for the expansion has already been procured. The company is currently in the final stages of selecting mining contractors to carry out the work.
April 2026: A Pivotal Month for Project Execution
The coming weeks are set to be decisive. Management has scheduled the award of construction contracts for the Butcherbird expansion for April 2026. The timeline projects mechanical completion and commissioning for the first quarter of 2027. Alongside these developments, the company is engaged in ongoing offtake negotiations to secure sales for its future production.
The company's transformation into an integrated battery materials supplier is gaining clear momentum. With secured strategic partners, government funding, and a clear development pathway, Element 25 has laid a solid foundation for its medium-term future. Investors responded positively to this progress, with the company's shares advancing more than eight percent in recent trading to €0.19.
