The Australian counter-drone specialist DroneShield is executing a fundamental transformation of its business model. The shift from sporadic hardware sales to predictable software income is now demonstrable in its financials, moving beyond mere strategic intent into tangible results.

European Demand Fuels Record Growth

Europe emerged as the company's dominant market in 2025, generating $98 million in revenue and accounting for 45% of DroneShield's total sales. This surge is structurally driven by geopolitical factors, including the war in Ukraine, the use of Iranian drones, and Russian attacks on European territory, which have accelerated demand for counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS).

To capture this opportunity, the company's European sales pipeline stood at $1.2 billion as of February 2026. A critical component of its strategy involves a massive production capacity expansion. Output is planned to scale from approximately $500 million annually in 2025 to $2.4 billion by the end of 2026. The first systems manufactured in Europe are scheduled for delivery by mid-year, a necessary step to meet procurement requirements under initiatives like the ReArm-Europe plan.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

SaaS Transition Delivers Exponential Gains

The cornerstone of DroneShield's evolution is its soaring software-as-a-service (SaaS) revenue. In 2025, this segment skyrocketed by 312% to A$11.6 million. Crucially, the company has already secured over A$18 million in contracted, recurring software income for 2026. This pivot provides a stable revenue foundation often absent for pure hardware vendors in the defense sector, where procurement cycles can be lengthy and irregular.

Overall financial performance for the 2025 fiscal year was robust. Total revenue reached A$216.5 million, a 277% year-on-year increase. Net profit grew even faster, advancing 367% to A$3.5 million. Looking ahead, DroneShield entered 2026 with A$95.6 million in secured revenue—marking the strongest annual start in its history.

Leadership and Strategic Oversight

A refreshed executive team is steering this period of rapid growth. In early 2026, Michael Powell assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer, bringing more than 25 years of experience from the defense and aerospace sectors, including previous COO positions at Thales Australia and Knorr-Bremse. Internally, Angus Bean moved fully into the Chief Product Officer position, while Angus Harris was appointed Chief Technology Officer. This trio leads a product and development team comprising over 330 staff.

Shareholders will have a key opportunity to review the company's trajectory at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for 29 May 2026. The deadline for shareholder nominations to the Board is 10 April. Management is expected to present detailed plans for scaling European production and will likely need to demonstrate that the profitability achieved in 2025 is sustainable, supported by delivery figures from the first and second quarters of 2026.
