Deutz AG's 2025 adjusted EBIT surged 46.4% to €112.3M, driven by strategic diversification into defense and emergency power, despite weak construction and agricultural markets.

Deutz AG's transformation into a more diversified industrial group is paying off. The Cologne-based engine manufacturer reported a 46.4% surge in adjusted operating profit (EBIT) to €112.3 million for the 2025 fiscal year, defying a persistent downturn in its traditional markets for construction and agricultural machinery. This performance underscores the early success of its strategic acquisitions in defense and emergency power generation.

Order intake and revenue growth provided a solid foundation for the profit leap. Orders rose by 13.7% to approximately €2.08 billion, while sales increased by 12.7% to €2.04 billion. The company's restructuring efforts, including over €25 million in cost savings realized in 2025, are translating directly to the bottom line. By the end of 2026, management aims to reduce the cost base by more than €50 million compared to 2024, supported by a new organizational structure with five independent business units.

The company's profitability is climbing in tandem. The adjusted EBIT margin reached 6.8% by year-end. Looking ahead, Deutz has set an ambitious target to double revenue to €4 billion by 2030, with a margin goal of 10%, driven by these new business areas.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz AG?

Despite the robust operational figures, investor sentiment remains cautious. The guidance for 2026 reflects this uncertainty, with the company forecasting an EBIT margin between 6.5% and 8.0%. This wide range accounts for the continued weakness in agricultural and construction equipment sectors. The stock, which is still up nearly 11% year-to-date, recently saw profit-taking, trading at €9.56.

Analysts are taking a more bullish view on the company's evolving profile. Berenberg Bank raised its price target on Deutz shares from €10 to €11 on Wednesday, reiterating its buy recommendation. Analyst Lasse Stueben highlighted tangible progress in the corporate transformation, noting the business now appears more resilient to economic fluctuations than in the past.

A significant near-term challenge comes from international trade policy. Since February 24, 2026, 15% US import tariffs have applied, directly affecting about 30,000 engines Deutz exports annually. CEO Sebastian Schulte has ruled out shifting production to the United States, arguing the volumes do not justify the investment. Instead, the company plans to pass the full additional cost on to American customers, calculating that British and Japanese competitors face the same barriers, negating any relative disadvantage. The company even suggests a short-term boost is possible if customers stockpile inventory before the tariffs fully take effect.

The coming weeks will be critical for validating the new strategy. On May 7, Deutz will publish its first-quarter 2026 results, offering concrete data on whether the growing defense and energy businesses are compensating for agricultural sector softness in real time. Shortly after, on May 13, the Annual General Meeting will vote on a proposed dividend of €0.18 per share, a slight increase from the previous year. For the full year 2026, management is targeting revenue between €2.3 and €2.5 billion.
