Deutsche Telekom Unveils AI-Powered Voice Assistant and Charts Ambitious Growth Path

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Deutsche Telekom showcased a significant technological advancement: the "Magenta AI Call Assistant." This service integrates artificial intelligence directly into phone calls without requiring an app or special hardware, activated simply by the voice command "Hey Magenta." The launch represents a strategic shift for Europe's leading telecommunications provider.
Financial Performance Sets Stage for Innovation
The company's recent financial results provide a solid foundation for its innovation push. For the 2025 fiscal year, Deutsche Telekom's group revenue climbed to €119.1 billion. Adjusted EBITDA AL reached €44.2 billion, marking an organic increase of 4.7% and exceeding the company's own forecast.
Growth was primarily driven by its US subsidiary, T-Mobile US, which added 7.8 million new postpaid customers throughout the year. In February 2026, Deutsche Telekom increased its stake in T-Mobile US to 52.8%. In its domestic German market, the expansion of fiber-optic infrastructure helped offset declining device sales. The addition of 2.5 million new connections in 2025 brought the total number of reachable households to 12.6 million, with a target of at least 25 million by 2030.
Looking ahead, management has issued an ambitious outlook for 2026. The company anticipates adjusted EBITDA AL will rise to approximately €47.4 billion, with Free Cash Flow AL expected to reach around €19.8 billion. Adjusted earnings per share are projected to be about €2.20, representing a currency-adjusted increase of roughly 10%.
The Board of Management has proposed a dividend of €1.00 per share for 2025, an 11% hike from the previous year. Furthermore, a share buyback program of up to $2 billion is planned for 2026. The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for April 1, 2026, with Q1 2026 results to follow on May 13.
Inside the AI Call Assistant: A Network-Based Breakthrough
Developed in partnership with ElevenLabs, a specialist in advanced voice AI models, the Magenta AI Call Assistant provides real-time support during live conversations. Once activated, it can suggest restaurants, offer travel options for holiday planning, help coordinate appointments, or provide live translation across up to 50 languages. A key technical differentiator is that the AI processes data network-based, not locally on the user's device.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
The company emphasizes its adherence to European data protection standards. Conversation content is only processed after explicit activation by the user. No data is stored or analyzed unless the assistant is enabled, and all parties on a call are notified when the AI is active. Deutsche Telekom customers are slated to be the first globally to gain access to the service in 2026, with multilingual functionality rolling out within the following twelve months.
A Broad Ecosystem of AI Initiatives
The voice assistant is the most visible component of a wider AI strategy encapsulated by the motto "Magenta AI at Scale. Human at Heart." The company is deploying AI across all business segments.
Within its network operations, Deutsche Telekom already operates MINDR, a multi-agent AI system built on Google's Gemini technology. This system continuously monitors the telecommunications network, predicts potential performance issues, and autonomously implements corrections before customers are affected.
In collaboration with NVIDIA, the group recently launched the Industrial AI Cloud in Munich, one of Europe's most powerful AI computing infrastructures. At MWC, the company also introduced a new Business Cloud offering for SMEs and the public sector, featuring sovereign AI computing capacity located within European data centers.
