Deutsche Telekom Stock Braces for Wage Talks and Earnings Test
12.04.2026 - 20:01:53 | boerse-global.deDeutsche Telekom shares are navigating a critical period, with two imminent events set to define the stock's trajectory. The company's share buyback program has provided a floor, but investor focus is now locked on upcoming wage negotiations and quarterly earnings reports.
Wage talks with the ver.di union for approximately 60,000 employees commence on Monday, presenting a direct challenge to the telecom giant's cost structure. The union is demanding a 6.6 percent pay increase over a twelve-month term, plus an annual membership bonus of 660 euros. Four rounds of negotiations are scheduled, concluding by the end of May. A significant concession could pressure margins in the company's core German market, especially given its ambitious target for adjusted EBITDA of 47.4 billion euros.
Providing technical support, Deutsche Telekom's ongoing share repurchase scheme has absorbed selling pressure. Between early and mid-April, a mandated bank repurchased around 1.3 million shares via Xetra. This is part of a second tranche running until the end of June, valued at up to 550 million euros, which itself is a component of a broader 2026 buyback program with a total volume of up to 2 billion euros. The stock currently trades about 4.7 percent above its 200-day moving average, a technically robust position.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
The stock recently weathered the dividend ex-date. Following the payout of a record 1.00 euro per share—an 11 percent year-on-year increase—the share price declined by over four percent. It last traded at 30.99 euros, sitting just below the 50-day line at 31.89 euros.
Investors face a double-barreled data release at the end of the month. First, T-Mobile US, a key growth engine, reports its quarterly figures on April 28. This event historically influences the Frankfurt-listed parent company's share price. The primary test arrives on May 13 with Deutsche Telekom's own first-quarter results for 2026. Analysts project a full-year adjusted earnings per share of around 2.18 euros. The report will offer the first concrete look at how wage settlements are impacting profitability and whether T-Mobile US can sustain its growth narrative. Positive outcomes from both events could see the stock swiftly move past its current consolidation phase.
