Deutsche Telekom Sets Ambitious Tone with Record Returns and Robust Outlook
01.03.2026 - 03:52:07 | boerse-global.de
Investors in Deutsche Telekom received a powerful one-two punch of shareholder rewards alongside solid 2025 results, shifting the market's focus firmly onto the company's execution path for 2026. The German telecommunications giant not only exceeded its own upgraded forecasts but also announced a record dividend and an ongoing share repurchase initiative.
The market response has been decidedly positive. Shares closed at €33.95 on Friday, marking a substantial 24.68% gain over the preceding 30-day period.
Exceeding Expectations Amid Currency Headwinds
The group reported broad-based organic growth for the full year 2025. Revenue increased by 4.2% on an organic basis to €119.1 billion, while adjusted EBITDA AL saw organic growth of 4.7%, reaching €44.2 billion. These figures are particularly notable given significant foreign exchange pressure; reported growth was lower due primarily to the weaker U.S. dollar.
Deutsche Telekom traditionally issues its guidance based on constant exchange rates. Measured on this basis, the company surpassed the targets it had raised as recently as November 2025. Adjusted EBITDA AL reached €45.5 billion against guidance of approximately €45.3 billion. Free cash flow AL also edged past its goal, coming in at €20.2 billion versus an expected €20.1 billion; on a reported basis, it grew 2.0% to €19.5 billion. Adjusted net profit rose 3.7% to €9.7 billion, with adjusted earnings per share of €2.00.
Operational Engines: T-Mobile US and Network Investment
The primary growth driver continues to be the U.S. business, T-Mobile US. In 2025, it boosted service revenue by 7.8% to $71.3 billion and grew adjusted EBITDA AL by 6.8% to $33.0 billion. The unit added 7.8 million postpaid customers for the full year, a significant increase from the 6.1 million added in 2024. In February 2026, Deutsche Telekom increased its stake in T-Mobile US to 52.8%. Looking ahead, the U.S. subsidiary anticipates its adjusted operating result will climb to a range of $37.0 to $37.5 billion in 2026, up from $33.9 billion in 2025.
Back in its home market, the company is aggressively expanding its fiber-optic footprint. Its FTTH network reached 12.6 million households in 2025, with over 2 million already using a direct fiber connection—including 584,000 additions in 2025 alone. The group also reported 5G coverage for 99% of the German population and 92% across its European markets.
Performance within the Germany segment was mixed. Adjusted EBITDA AL increased by 1.7% to €10.7 billion, while total revenue declined by 0.4% to €25.6 billion, partly due to lower device sales. Service revenue, however, grew organically by 1.1%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
The IT services arm, T-Systems, delivered a strong performance. Order entry rose 4.2% to €4.2 billion, revenue increased 2.5% to €4.1 billion, and adjusted EBITDA AL jumped 15.7% to €427 million.
Elevated Returns and a Higher Bar for 2026
Shareholders are poised to benefit directly from this performance. The board has proposed a dividend of €1.00 per share for 2025, an 11% increase over the previous year. Furthermore, a share buyback program of up to €2.0 billion commenced in January 2026, with nearly nine million shares already repurchased by mid-February.
For the current year, management has set its sights on continued growth (on a constant currency basis). Adjusted EBITDA AL is projected to rise to approximately €47.4 billion, with free cash flow AL expected around €19.8 billion. The company anticipates adjusted earnings per share of roughly €2.20. Deutsche Telekom also reaffirmed its medium-term targets for 2027, which include free cash flow of approximately €21 billion.
The calendar for upcoming milestones is already set. The Annual General Meeting is scheduled for April 1, 2026, followed by the release of Q1 2026 figures on May 13, 2026. Until then, the narrative remains clear: propulsion from the U.S., sustained infrastructure investment in Germany, and substantial capital returns providing a consistent backdrop.
