Deutsche Telekom is charting a bold course to eliminate mobile dead zones across Europe, announcing a landmark partnership that will see it deliver connectivity from space. This strategic move, coupled with a strong financial performance and aggressive investments in artificial intelligence, outlines a comprehensive plan for network dominance and shareholder value.

Financial Performance Sets the Stage for Expansion

The company's recent operational results provide a solid foundation for its ambitious initiatives. For the 2025 fiscal year, Deutsche Telekom reported organic revenue growth of 4.2%, reaching €119.1 billion. Its adjusted EBITDA AL saw a 4.7% organic increase to €44.2 billion. Free cash flow AL, a key metric for financial health, exceeded internal targets at €20.2 billion.

Profitability metrics were equally robust, with adjusted net income climbing to €9.7 billion. This translated to an adjusted earnings per share figure of €2.00. Reflecting this strength, the board will propose a dividend of €1.00 per share for 2025, up from €0.90 the previous year. A significant share buyback program is also underway, with 11,150,881 shares repurchased between January 5 and February 27, 2026 alone.

The growth engine remains T-Mobile US, where service revenue grew 7.8% to $71.3 billion and adjusted EBITDA AL increased 6.8% to $33.0 billion. The US subsidiary added 7.8 million new postpaid customers in 2025, and Deutsche Telekom increased its stake to 52.8% in February 2026.

In its domestic market, the picture was more nuanced. Total revenue in Germany declined by 0.4% to €25.6 billion, primarily due to lower device sales. However, service revenue grew organically by 1.1%, and the adjusted operating result rose 1.7% to €10.7 billion. The fiber optic rollout continues apace, with 2.5 million new connections added in 2025, bringing total coverage to 12.6 million households. The company has surpassed 2 million FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) customers and aims to reach at least 25 million by 2030.

Satellite Partnership Aims to Cover the Final Frontier

At the heart of its network strategy is a newly confirmed cooperation with Starlink, the satellite internet unit of SpaceX. Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the plan is to launch a satellite-based mobile service across ten European nations by 2028. This initiative is poised to be Europe's first deployment using Starlink's second-generation (V2) satellites.

The service will target Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Its primary objective is to fill coverage gaps in areas where traditional terrestrial networks are impractical or too costly, such as nature reserves, dense forests, and mountainous terrain.

A key feature for end-users is the lack of required additional hardware. Compatible modern smartphones will be able to switch automatically to the satellite connection when terrestrial mobile signals are absent. The partnership envisions potential satellite-to-mobile coverage for over 140 million subscribers across the ten countries. For Germany, this complements the company's existing claim of nearly 90% 5G geographic coverage, addressing the remaining "white spots" and enhancing network resilience during emergencies like natural disasters or prolonged power outages.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

Artificial Intelligence and Network Evolution

Alongside satellite connectivity, Deutsche Telekom is positioning artificial intelligence as a second core pillar. Under the banner "Magenta AI at Scale. Human at Heart," it introduced the "Magenta AI Call Assistant" as a world premiere. Developed in partnership with ElevenLabs, this function is designed to provide real-time support during live phone calls without requiring a separate app or additional hardware.

The company emphasizes that the assistant is only activated upon explicit customer consent. When not activated, no conversation data is stored or analyzed.

In parallel, Deutsche Telekom is deepening its collaboration with network supplier Nokia. The focus is on advancing cloud-based, more disaggregated, and "AI-native" Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies. This co-creation partnership aims to develop smarter, more autonomous network functions spanning cloud, edge, and radio domains.

Forward-Looking Guidance and Market Position

Management has provided confident guidance for 2026, forecasting adjusted EBITDA AL of approximately €47.4 billion—representing growth of around 7%. Free cash flow AL is projected to be about €19.8 billion, with adjusted earnings per share expected around €2.20, marking a currency-adjusted increase of roughly 10%.

The market has responded positively to the company's trajectory. Although shares dipped 1.44% over the past week, they remain up a strong 14.14% over the last 30 days. The recent closing price of €32.93 sits comfortably above the 50-day moving average of €29.48.

Investors will get their next comprehensive update at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for April 1, 2026, followed by the release of Q1 2026 figures on May 13, 2026. These events will offer critical insight into whether the robust 2025 foundation and the 2026 targets can successfully underpin the company's expansive technological ambitions.
