Deutsche Telekom's Multi-Billion Euro Buyback Initiative Gains Momentum
11.03.2026 - 03:44:30 | boerse-global.de
Deutsche Telekom is demonstrating significant confidence in its operational trajectory through the steady execution of a major share repurchase scheme. The Bonn-based telecommunications behemoth is actively reducing its share count, a strategic move supported by robust annual results and new alliance announcements. For investors, the central consideration is whether these elements provide a durable foundation for continued share price appreciation.
Financial Performance Fuels Capital Returns
The company's capacity to undertake such substantial capital return measures stems directly from its full-year financial outcomes. Group revenue reached 119.1 billion euros, while the adjusted operating profit ascended to 44.2 billion euros. Once again, T-Mobile US proved to be the primary profit driver. Reflecting its importance, Deutsche Telekom increased its stake in this profitable American subsidiary to 52.8 percent in February.
This operational strength is translating into enhanced direct shareholder returns. The board has proposed an eleven percent higher dividend of 1.00 euro per share for the past fiscal year. Looking ahead to 2026, management is targeting further growth, including a currency-adjusted increase in earnings per share of approximately ten percent to around 2.20 euros.
Steady Buyback Execution Underpins Share Price
The company's systematic withdrawal of its own equity from the market is providing tangible support for the stock. During the first week of March, the corporation acquired just over 1.15 million of its own shares via the Frankfurt exchange. Since the beginning of January, the total volume of repurchased shares has surpassed 12.3 million.
The full program envisions buybacks worth up to two billion euros by 2026. The initial tranche, valued at 550 million euros, is scheduled for completion by the end of March. This deliberate reduction in share supply is having a noticeable effect. With a recent closing price of 32.63 euros, the equity has posted a solid year-to-date gain of over 17 percent and currently trades about nine percent above its 50-day moving average.

Strategic Initiatives for Future Growth
Beyond financial engineering, Deutsche Telekom is advancing strategic projects to secure future growth. Domestically, its rapid fiber-optic network expansion now reaches 12.6 million households. Furthermore, a newly announced partnership with Starlink is set to begin in 2028. This collaboration aims to provide European mobile customers with automatic, seamless access to the satellite network in areas with poor terrestrial coverage.
The calendar for upcoming catalysts is clearly defined. Following the Annual General Meeting on April 1, the presentation of first-quarter figures on May 13 will be closely watched. This report must demonstrate whether the growth momentum in the United States and the ongoing domestic fiber build-out continue to support the company's ambitious annual targets.
