Despite reporting a record year, machinery manufacturer Krones has tempered its outlook for 2026 with a significant caveat. Investor sentiment has turned cautious, with the company's shares shedding more than 16% of their value since the start of the year. The primary concern centers on foreign exchange volatility, which threatens to materially dampen reported growth figures, even as order books remain full well into the autumn.

Strong Operations Face External Pressure

The company's operational performance for the 2025 fiscal year was robust. Revenue climbed by 7.0% to approximately €5.66 billion. The development of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) was particularly positive, advancing by 12.2% and outpacing sales growth. This improvement lifted the corresponding margin to 10.6%.

However, the financial statements already bear the marks of weak foreign currencies, most notably the US dollar. Excluding these negative translation effects, revenue would have been €99 million higher. This dynamic serves as a warning, given that Krones generates a substantial portion of its earnings outside the Eurozone.

Geopolitical Uncertainties Loom Over Full Order Books

A key pillar of stability for the Neutraubling-based group is sustained high demand. With order intake surpassing €5.5 billion in 2025, production capacity for its plant and project business is booked solidly through much of the third quarter of 2026. This provides management with considerable visibility in an otherwise uncertain market environment.

For the current year, the executive board forecasts currency-adjusted sales growth of 3% to 5%. The EBITDA margin is targeted to rise to as much as 11.1% under ideal conditions. These objectives, however, come with the explicit reservation of geopolitical unpredictability. Beyond global tariff policies, the unstable situation in the Middle East is a major concern, with impacts on the world economy that are currently difficult to calculate.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Krones?

Share Price Tests Annual Lows

Notwithstanding this solid operational foundation, the equity is currently searching for a floor. Closing at €113.20 this past Friday, the shares are trading just above their 52-week low of €109.20. The gap to the 200-day moving average has widened to around 14%, underscoring the prevailing downward trend.

A silver lining for shareholders is the proposed dividend. The management and supervisory boards will recommend an increase in the payout to €2.80 per share at the Annual General Meeting on June 9, 2026. This represents a distribution ratio of nearly 30% of group profit, placing it at the upper end of the company's internal target range.
