ABO Wind AG faces a pivotal moment this coming Monday, with its financial future hanging in the balance. The company is seeking creditor approval for a major restructuring plan, a move deemed essential following its first-ever annual loss and a stock price that has been cut in half since the start of the year.

Mounting Pressure from Historic Losses

The urgency for a new financial framework is underscored by a stark forecast. For the 2025 fiscal year, ABO Wind anticipates a deficit of approximately €170 million, marking a historic first loss in the firm's nearly three-decade history. This figure represents a significant downward revision from an estimated €100 million shortfall discussed in November, following a drastic correction in January.

Management attributes the financial strain primarily to challenges in its domestic German market, where oversubscribed auctions have eroded margins. Additional complications include project delays and difficulties in international operations, such as those in Spain and Finland, which necessitated value adjustments totaling €35 million.

Second Attempt with Lower Threshold

All eyes are on Wiesbaden for the March 9th vote. This is the company's second attempt, after a February proposal failed due to insufficient creditor attendance. The upcoming meeting requires a quorum of just 25% of the outstanding bond capital to proceed, a lower threshold designed to facilitate a decision.

The board's objective is clear: to gain bondholders' consent to waive termination rights and remove so-called negative pledge clauses. Such approval would unlock the company's ability to secure new loans and provide collateral, options currently restricted by existing agreements. A standstill arrangement with key financiers, active since January 23, currently offers only a temporary reprieve, lasting until the end of May.

Market Sentiment Reflects Deep Concerns

Investor skepticism is palpable in the market's reaction. ABO Wind's shares hit a low of €4.25 in February, representing a loss of over 50% of their value since January. More alarmingly, the price of its 2024 bond is trading at roughly 16% of its face value, a clear indicator of market doubt regarding its repayment prospects.

Despite the crisis, the company reports ongoing operational progress. Recent developments include winning contracts for solar parks with a combined capacity of 50 megawatts and the sale of projects in France to generate liquidity. Its project pipeline remains substantial at 30 gigawatts.

The leadership maintains its goal of returning to profitability within the 2026 fiscal year. However, this plan is entirely contingent on a favorable outcome from Monday's creditor vote. The detailed financial statements for the loss-making 2025 year are scheduled for publication on June 22.
