Cameco Corporation's stock is experiencing a period of consolidation, caught between robust quarterly performance and a more cautious forward view. The shares declined by 1.9% to $109.40 on Wednesday. This movement follows the company's recent fourth-quarter earnings beat, which was tempered by a conservative outlook for 2026, prompting some investor hesitation.

Institutional Backing Meets Lofty Valuation

A significant vote of confidence for the uranium producer comes from the institutional investment community, which currently holds 70.2% of outstanding shares. Analyst sentiment remains predominantly positive, with thirteen market experts issuing "buy" recommendations and two advising investors to "hold." The consensus price target sits at $150.40 per share.

However, this confidence is reflected in a premium valuation. Cameco's forward price-to-sales multiple stands at 18.52, which is more than triple the industry average of 5.42. While the company's position appears stronger than some peers—such as Ur-Energy, which reported a 19% revenue decline, or Energy Fuels, with a 16% drop—the recent pullback likely represents a cooling-off phase after a three-month rally that saw shares surge 24%. A key factor for the stock's trajectory will be Cameco's ability to maintain realized uranium prices, which will directly influence whether the earnings growth achieved in 2025 can be sustained.

2025 Strength Contrasts with 2026 Guidance

The company's fourth-quarter results substantially exceeded market expectations. Cameco reported earnings per share of $0.36, outperforming the anticipated $0.29. Revenue reached $874.6 million, well above the forecasted $782.1 million. For the full 2025 fiscal year, revenue climbed 11% to CAD 3.48 billion.

This growth was primarily fueled by the uranium segment, which generated CAD 2.87 billion. Notably, this was achieved despite a slight 2% dip in sales volume, as the average realized price increased by 9% to CAD 87 per pound.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Cameco?

Looking ahead, management's projection for 2026 introduces a note of caution. The company anticipates revenue in the range of CAD 3.13 billion to CAD 3.37 billion. The midpoint of this guidance suggests an approximate 7% decrease compared to the 2025 results. Uranium production is forecast to be between 19.5 and 21.5 million pounds, following output of 21 million pounds in the prior year.

In contrast, the Fuel Services segment continues to show positive momentum. After posting a 22% revenue increase to CAD 562 million in 2025, Cameco expects further growth for 2026, with projected revenue between CAD 590 million and CAD 630 million.
