BYD is accelerating its global expansion on multiple fronts, from a multi-year sponsorship deal with Paris Saint-Germain to a solid-state battery that promises 1,000 kilometres of range. The Chinese automaker’s stock has responded with a modest rally, though the shares remain in negative territory for the year.

A New Battery Era Begins in 2027

On the technology front, BYD confirmed on 27 July that its first vehicles equipped with sulphide-based solid-state batteries will arrive in 2027. The cutting-edge power pack will debut under the Yangwang luxury brand, delivering up to 1,000 kilometres of range on the WLTP cycle. The company also highlighted improved cold-weather performance and positive early safety-test results.

Mass-market adoption is still a few years away. BYD plans to roll out the solid-state technology to its mainstream models between 2028 and 2029, a familiar strategy that allows the group to scale production and bring down costs before entering higher-volume segments.

Seal 06 Gets a LiDAR Upgrade

Alongside the battery announcement, BYD released official images of the updated Seal 06 for the 2027 model year. The most striking change is a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor positioned above the windscreen, marking a shift from camera-only systems toward more advanced driver-assistance features.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

Regulatory filings reveal that the mid-size sedan has grown by 150 millimetres to a total length of 4,870 millimetres. Top-spec powertrain variants will deliver up to 240 kW, while BYD’s proprietary Blade battery is expected to provide a CLTC-rated range of 630 kilometres. The company also unveiled the Da Han flagship sedan, which pairs a 102.3 kWh LFP battery with a CLTC range of 1,008 kilometres, directly targeting established long-range electric vehicles in the premium segment.

PSG Deal Opens a European Door

BYD’s marketing push in Europe took a significant step forward with a multi-year partnership agreement with Paris Saint-Germain. The automaker will serve as the club’s official automotive partner until June 2029, gaining visibility at the Parc des Princes and supplying vehicles from both the BYD and Denza brands for club operations.

The sponsorship builds on BYD’s earlier involvement with the UEFA Euro 2024 and aims to boost brand recognition in a region where the company remains far less established than in China or Latin America. Vice-chairwoman Stella Li has described the planned factory in Szeged, Hungary, as the company’s “top priority,” with full vehicle production expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Hungarian site is designed to help BYD navigate EU trade rules and avoid import tariffs.

Meanwhile, a proposed billion-euro investment in Turkey’s Manisa province remains on ice. Construction has not started, and no firm timeline exists. Reports suggest management is instead evaluating the acquisition of existing European plants as a potential second production site on the continent.

Australian Leasing Deal Unlocks a New Customer Base

In Australia, BYD has partnered with Smart, a provider of salary-sacrifice and novated leasing solutions. The agreement, signed on 26 July, integrates the leasing model directly into the vehicle purchase process, giving BYD and Denza access to more than 2.5 million Australian employees across corporate, government, healthcare and education sectors.

The structure takes advantage of Australia’s tax system. Eligible workers can acquire vehicles through pre-tax salary sacrifice, while the country’s electric-vehicle rebate exempts qualifying cars from the Fringe Benefits Tax, significantly lowering the effective purchase price. BYD Australia sold approximately 52,335 vehicles in the first half of 2026, more than double the figure from the same period a year earlier.

Production Milestone in Brazil

In Latin America, BYD’s factory in Camaçari, Brazil, has surpassed 100,000 vehicles produced in just 13 months since production started on 1 July 2025. The plant currently builds the Dolphin Mini and holds export orders for more than 100,000 units destined for Argentina and Mexico.

Stock Recovers but Remains Below Year-Ago Levels

BYD shares closed at €9.92 on Monday, up 1.62 percent on the day. Over the past 30 days, the stock has gained 20.55 percent, pushing it above its 50-day moving average of €9.51. From the year’s low of €8.03 on 30 June, the shares have recovered 23.86 percent.

Still, the stock is down 7.33 percent year-to-date and remains roughly 30 percent below its 52-week high of €14.25. The recent rally suggests investors are taking a positive view of BYD’s product offensive and European expansion, but the broader trend for 2026 remains cautious. The company has set an export target of 1.5 million vehicles for next year, a goal that will depend heavily on how quickly the Hungarian factory ramps up and whether the Turkish project is revived.
