BYD has officially opened orders for the Denza Z9 GT in the UK, marking the arrival of its luxury sub-brand on European soil. The electric shooting brake, priced at roughly $140,000, represents the company’s most direct challenge yet to legacy premium automakers. But even as the Chinese giant expands its footprint abroad, its shares continue to trade well below what some analysts consider fair value — creating a tension between operational momentum and market sentiment that investors are watching closely.

A 1,000-Volt Statement

The Z9 GT is no mere badge extension. It rides on BYD’s second-generation Blade battery and a new 1,000-volt architecture, enabling a charge from 10 to 70 percent in roughly five minutes under ideal conditions. Range is pegged at up to 1,036 kilometers under China’s CLTC cycle, or 599 kilometers on the stricter WLTP standard used in Europe. A plug-in hybrid variant starts at £95,000 alongside the fully electric version.

The Denza launch comes just a day after BYD released design sketches of the upcoming “Da Han” flagship sedan, which will debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in August. That model, part of the Dynasty-9 lineup, stretches 5,256 millimeters in length with a 3,130-millimeter wheelbase and is expected to deliver 764 horsepower from an all-wheel-drive BEV powertrain, topping out at 270 kilometers per hour. Range is projected at 1,008 kilometers, again using the second-gen Blade battery. A plug-in hybrid version is also planned.

Da Tang Hits 10,000 Deliveries

The Da Han’s SUV stablemate, the Da Tang, has already crossed a significant milestone. Since its market debut on June 17, 2026, the flagship SUV has accumulated over 150,000 pre-orders, and on July 23, BYD delivered the 10,000th unit. Priced between 239,900 and 309,900 yuan, the Da Tang offers up to 950 kilometers of range and can charge from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes thanks to its own 1,000-volt architecture.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

Home-Market Weakness, Export Boom

The headline delivery numbers tell only part of the story. In June, BYD sold 403,472 new energy vehicles globally, up 5.46 percent year on year. But the domestic market — still the company’s largest — saw sales slide 22.02 percent to 228,123 units. For the first half of 2026, global deliveries totaled 1,808,511 vehicles, a decline of 15.72 percent from the same period last year.

The gap is being filled by exports. Overseas sales jumped 95 percent in June to 174,900 vehicles, and over the first six months of 2026 they rose 70.65 percent to 789,400 units. That international push extends to manufacturing: BYD is nearing completion of a $150 million assembly plant in Gharo, Pakistan, with an annual capacity of 25,000 vehicles. Production is expected to start in the second half of 2026 in partnership with Mega Motor Company. Along the 1,300-kilometer corridor between Karachi and Peshawar, 19 fast-charging stations built with HUBCO Green are already operational.

A Unified Digital Experience

On the technology front, BYD announced on July 22 that it has partnered with Xperi Inc. to integrate the DTS AutoStage platform as the exclusive media interface for new models in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East. The move is designed to standardize the digital user experience across international markets, a critical step as the brand scales globally.

The Stock’s Valuation Puzzle

For all the operational progress, BYD’s share price remains subdued. The German-listed stock closed at €9.79 on Thursday, down 0.52 percent, and still sits roughly 33 percent below its 52-week high from July 2025. The Hong Kong-listed shares, meanwhile, last traded at HK$88.65 — above Simply Wall St’s narrative-based fair value of HK$85.40 but far below the DCF-derived estimate of HK$434.68. The average analyst price target still implies a discount of around 40 percent.

The valuation debate is complicated by diverging profit expectations. According to Chinese media outlet 36Kr, foreign banks estimate BYD’s quarterly profit at between 95 and 102 billion yuan, while the company itself guides for 80 to 90 billion yuan. The energy storage business, meanwhile, is already sold out for 2026, with orders extending through 2028.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Tesla Feels the Heat

The competitive pressure BYD is applying isn’t limited to Europe. On July 23, Tesla’s stock plunged more than 13 percent, a move market observers linked in part to a fresh price war led by BYD and other Chinese manufacturers. In Europe, BYD’s market share in the EV segment has effectively drawn level with Tesla’s in the first half of 2026 — a gap that seemed unbridgeable just a few years ago.

As BYD prepares to showcase the Da Han in Chengdu and ramps up Denza deliveries in the UK, the company is testing two new growth vectors simultaneously. Whether the stock will eventually reflect that momentum remains an open question.
