BrainChip Retains Board Mandate, Shifts Focus to AKD1500 Volume Ramp

At AGM, shareholders reject board spill and approve new remuneration, but stock falls 4.15% to AUD 0.10 as market awaits AKD1500 production and commercial breakthroughs.

Shareholders at BrainChip’s annual general meeting delivered a clear signal of support for the existing leadership, rejecting a push to replace the entire board. The vote of confidence, however, did little to stem the stock’s slide, with the shares sliding to AUD 0.10 by the end of the week — a 4.15% decline on the day and a roughly 27% drop over the past twelve months.

The AGM marked a sharp reversal from the previous three years, when the company’s compensation plans had each time met with shareholder protests. This year all resolutions passed smoothly, including the re-election of directors Peter van der Made and Antonio J. Viana, as well as new remuneration packages. Management had lobbied heavily ahead of the meeting, enlisting external advisors in a campaign to head off the so-called “board spill.” The effort paid off, granting CEO Sean Hehir and his team a renewed mandate to execute the technology roadmap through 2026.

Yet the market’s reaction underscores the skepticism that continues to surround BrainChip’s commercial trajectory. Hehir himself described 2026 as a make-or-break year for the neuromorphic chip developer, warning that the edge-AI market is likely to consolidate around a handful of players. With revenue growth stuck at just 4% while research and development spending climbed by 14%, the pressure to convert technical promise into hard customer contracts has never been greater.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BrainChip?

The immediate catalyst that investors are watching is the AKD1500 processor, slated for series production in the third quarter. At less than 300 milliwatts, the chip is optimised for ultra-low-power applications — particularly in the aerospace and defence sectors — and represents BrainChip’s best shot at shifting from licensing fees to recurring revenue. Whether the production ramp actually materialises on schedule will serve as the single most important operational indicator for the second half of the year.

To get there, the company is leaning on a strategic alliance with South Korean fabless house ASICLAND, a member of TSMC’s Value Chain Alliance. Under the agreement, ASICLAND will integrate BrainChip’s Akida technology directly into system-on-chip designs for customers across Asia and the United States, handling testing and prototyping through its existing infrastructure. Analysts view the tie-up as a cost-efficient route to proving the technology’s economic viability without building a full sales force from scratch.

Financially, BrainChip retains some breathing room. Its current ratio stands at 11.4, indicating ample short-term liquidity, and a capital agreement with LDA Capital provides access to around AUD 75 million. That buffer, combined with the board’s freshly secured stability, buys management a window in which to deliver the commercial breakthroughs that the stock price so clearly demands.

For now, the market remains unconvinced. The share price of AUD 0.10 values the entire company at approximately AUD 360 million — a figure that leaves no room for execution missteps. With the Q3 production deadline approaching, BrainChip’s path to reversing the slide runs squarely through concrete customer orders, new partnerships, and a tangible uptick in licensing revenue.
