ASML Ushers in High-NA Era and India Expansion as Institutional Investors Pile In

The Dutch lithography giant ASML is firing on multiple cylinders, with two strategic breakthroughs converging to lift its stock to fresh highs. Shares touched a new 52-week peak of €1,383 on Friday, capping a weekly gain of nearly 7%, as investors absorbed news of a landmark partnership in India and the commercial launch of its next-generation High-NA EUV technology.
High-NA moves from lab to fab
CEO Christophe Fouquet confirmed at the Imec ITF conference in Antwerp that the first commercial chips produced using ASML’s High-NA EUV systems are expected to reach the market before the end of this year. The platform has officially exited research and development, with manufacturing test runs now underway. While initial output remains test-grade, integration into volume production for logic and memory chips is slated for 2027–2028.
Fouquet stressed that the technology is being brought to market in close collaboration with key customers, who are already testing the systems on product wafers to ensure they meet the precision demands of next-generation, smaller and more efficient processors. The milestone comes at a time when global chip demand, particularly from AI infrastructure, is straining supply chains. The CEO described the supply situation as “tense,” warning of recurring bottlenecks as the chip market heads toward a projected $1.5 trillion by 2030. ASML is responding by ramping up production of its lithography systems and developing a second tool for advanced packaging tailored to physically large AI chips.
Betting on India’s semiconductor ambitions
Alongside the technology push, ASML is deepening its geographic diversification. CFO Roger Dassen unveiled a new partnership with Tata Electronics at the JPMorgan conference in London, aimed at building a semiconductor fabrication facility in India. ASML will supply the lithography equipment and technical know-how, marking its strategic entry into one of the world’s fastest-growing chip markets. India is aggressively reducing its reliance on established manufacturing hubs, and ASML is securing a early foothold in its supply chain.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Asml?
Market observers view the move as a timely hedge against concentration risk and a play for long-term demand from a country that is investing heavily in domestic chip production.
Institutional backing and steady financials
The two catalysts are drawing fresh institutional interest. Hedge funds and institutional investors now hold approximately 26% of ASML’s outstanding shares. Envestnet Portfolio Solutions, for instance, increased its stake by 16.6%. The company’s market capitalisation stands at roughly $626 billion.
Operationally, ASML’s first-quarter numbers underscore the confidence. Net revenue came in at €8.8 billion, net profit at €2.8 billion, and the gross margin of 53% landed at the top end of guidance. For the full year, management forecasts sales between €36 billion and €40 billion, with a gross margin of 51% to 53%, demonstrating resilience despite ongoing export controls.

Capital returns and analyst cheer
Shareholders are also benefiting directly. The annual general meeting in April confirmed a final dividend of €2.70 per share for 2025, and ASML bought back roughly €1.1 billion worth of shares in the first quarter as part of a buyback programme that runs through 2028.
On the analyst front, UBS reiterated ASML as a “top pick” in the European semiconductor sector, arguing that the tight supply environment could prolong the current investment cycle into 2028. The average analyst price target stands at €1,483, implying roughly 10% upside from the current level. Meanwhile, the relative strength index (RSI) of 31.9 suggests the stock may be short-term oversold despite the recent rally, hinting that further upside could be in store once the market fully prices in the High-NA revenue stream and India-related orders.
