ASML's Taiwan Hiring Spree and High-NA EUV Push Give Analyst Targets a Tangible Backing

ASML accelerates Taiwan hiring to 1,000 as AI chip demand drives record revenue, stock up 44% YTD, and High-NA EUV lithography moves to volume production.

ASML is translating its AI-driven demand narrative into boots on the ground. The Dutch lithography giant has raised its hiring target for Taiwan from 600 to 1,000 new employees this year, with the additional headcount concentrated in customer support, manufacturing, and supply-chain roles. Grace Wang, managing director of ASML Taiwan, cited rising client demand as the reason for the expansion — a concrete operational signal that the company's ambitious growth forecasts are more than just numbers on a guidance sheet.

Taiwan already accounts for a hefty slice of ASML's global business. With more than 4,500 staff — roughly ten percent of the worldwide workforce — and two facilities in Linkou and Tainan, the island generates about €8.3 billion in annual revenue, or 25.5 percent of group sales. A third plant is under construction in New Taipei. The sites produce components and assemble EUV machines for local chipmakers, most notably TSMC, the world's largest contract manufacturer. That makes Taiwan the most critical operational hub for the company's cutting-edge lithography equipment.

Behind the rally in ASML's shares lies a flood of analyst enthusiasm. UBS has named the stock a top pick in the European semiconductor sector and lifted its price target to €1,900. Barclays followed with an upgrade to "Buy". Both houses argue that the investment cycle for semiconductor equipment will run until at least 2028, powered by surging demand for AI chips and a tightening supply market. The stock recently marked a fresh 52-week high of €1,426.80, representing a gain of roughly 44 percent since the start of the year and about 117 percent from the August 2024 trough. The equity now trades nearly 40 percent above its 200-day moving average — a sign of how rapidly expectations have been priced in.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Asml?

That growth story is underpinned by a technological step-change. ASML's High-NA EUV lithography systems are moving from the lab into volume production. The first chips manufactured using the new machines are expected to ship before the end of this year. High-NA EUV is essential for making chips below the 2-nanometer threshold, and early adopters include Intel and SK Hynix. SK Hynix placed a substantial EUV order in March for high-performance memory destined for AI systems. CEO Christophe Fouquet stated on May 20 that the global semiconductor market would remain "tight" for the foreseeable future, with bottlenecks likely across the supply chain. He added that the market could grow to $1.5 trillion by 2030, driven largely by AI infrastructure buildout.

The Taiwan hiring blitz gives Fouquet's outlook a palpable grounding. During the first quarter of 2026, ASML reported net sales of €8.8 billion and a gross margin of 53 percent, prompting management to raise the full-year revenue forecast to between €36 billion and €40 billion. The personnel expansion in Taiwan is meant to ensure that machines get delivered, installed, and serviced smoothly as customers accelerate their capacity plans. If the ramp-up succeeds, it will reinforce the investment case built around AI-driven chip expansion. If it stalls, exactly this expansion plan will become a test of management’s ability to execute.
