The coming week is pivotal for ASML Holding NV, the Dutch semiconductor equipment giant. As the company prepares to release its quarterly figures, investors are weighing a powerful surge in demand against escalating geopolitical risks that threaten a key market.

Geopolitical Tensions Cast a Shadow

Operating in a politically charged environment, ASML faces potential new export controls from Washington. U.S. officials are reportedly considering stricter regulations that would further limit the sale and maintenance of DUV immersion lithography systems to Chinese clients. This regulatory uncertainty exerted pressure on the share price this Tuesday, with the stock closing 1.5% lower at €1,112.40. Despite this recent pullback, ASML's equity has still delivered a solid year-to-date gain exceeding 12%.

The company's ongoing share buyback program provides additional support for shareholders. In a move to enhance shareholder value, ASML repurchased nearly 88,000 of its own shares between late March and early April, spending approximately €100 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Asml?

AI Boom Fuels Unprecedented Demand

The core operational business, however, demonstrates remarkable strength. Driven by the artificial intelligence boom, major chipmakers are scrambling to secure ASML's cutting-edge extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines. Recent disclosures reveal that SK Hynix has ordered around 30 of these advanced systems for $8 billion, with deliveries scheduled through the end of 2027. In a parallel move, Samsung is also planning an acquisition of 20 machines valued at $4 billion for its Pyeongtaek production complex.

These colossal commitments have filled ASML's order books well into 2027. Analysts suggest this influx could enable the firm to surpass its current annual revenue guidance, which stands between €34 billion and €39 billion.

All eyes are now on the upcoming earnings presentation scheduled for Wednesday, April 15. CEO Christophe Fouquet and his management team will unveil the first-quarter 2026 results. The subsequent investor call will offer crucial insights into whether the windfall from new Asian mega-deals can effectively offset potential losses from the Chinese market, providing clarity on the company's near-term trajectory.
