Arafura Rare Earths Advances Key Project with Land Deal and Strategic Expansion

Arafura secures land access, buys key camp, and eyes heavy rare earths as NdPr prices surge and ASX 300 inclusion nears, targeting a 2026 final investment decision.

A series of recent developments indicates that Arafura Rare Earths is methodically progressing its flagship Nolans project toward a construction decision. The company has secured critical land access, acquired key infrastructure, and is exploring a broader product suite, setting the stage for a major final investment commitment.

Market and Index Inclusion Provide Tailwinds

The operational progress coincides with a favorable pricing environment for rare earth elements. Prices for neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) oxide on Asian markets have recently climbed above the $100 per kilogram threshold, reaching their highest point since July 2022. Analysts cite rising demand from robotics and artificial intelligence industries as a primary driver.

Furthermore, Arafura is set to gain enhanced market visibility with its inclusion in the S&P/ASX 300 index, effective March 23. This move is expected to trigger automatic buying from passive index-tracking funds, potentially providing additional support for the share price.

Foundation Secured Through Land Agreement and Asset Purchase

The company has solidified the project's foundational legal and physical footing. On March 10, Arafura reached a compensation agreement with the ATAYF Pastoralists for the pastoral lease area encompassing the Nolans site. Under the unique arrangement, the Pastoralists will receive A$4 million worth of Arafura shares and will, in turn, invest A$1.2 million in cash. This structure economically aligns both parties and formally secures project access.

In a parallel move to control costs and accelerate timelines, Arafura purchased an existing camp facility from NT Link for A$6.75 million. The camp comprises more than 200 rooms. This acquisition eliminates future rental expenses and will allow for rapid workforce mobilization once a final investment decision (FID) is made.

Product Portfolio Potentially Broadens

Historically focused on producing neodymium and praseodymium, Arafura is now investigating the potential to extract additional, more valuable elements. The company is collaborating with Clean TeQ Water to assess the technical and economic feasibility of recovering dysprosium and terbium from the Nolans ore.

These heavy rare earths are critical for industrial and defense applications, and their global supply is highly concentrated. Successfully adding them to the output would significantly diversify and strengthen the project's revenue base.

Final Investment Decision Targeted for 2026

Arafura has set a target for the final investment decision in the second quarter of 2026. A key prerequisite is the execution of remaining binding offtake agreements by the end of March. Should development proceed on schedule, a three-to-four-year construction phase would follow, with first production anticipated around 2032.

The company reported a strong cash position of A$571 million as of the end of 2025, providing a substantial funding buffer. With operational preparations advancing and market conditions appearing supportive, the critical near-term milestone is the timely signing of the outstanding sales contracts.
