Apple's Strategic Shift: Bringing Mac Mini Production to US Soil

In a significant move for its supply chain strategy, Apple has announced it will begin manufacturing its Mac mini computers in the United States for the first time. The technology giant revealed plans on Monday for a major expansion of its production facilities in Houston, Texas, a project expected to generate thousands of new jobs. This decision marks a concrete step in the company's broader realignment of its global manufacturing and logistics network.

A Broader US Investment Strategy

The expansion in Houston represents a component of Apple’s comprehensive $600 billion commitment to the US market. The company is pursuing this goal through key strategic partnerships. This year alone, Apple plans to source over 100 million state-of-the-art chips from TSMC’s facility in Arizona. Furthermore, the Cupertino-based firm will become the inaugural and primary customer for Amkor’s new semiconductor packaging plant located in Peoria, Arizona.

By relocating critical stages of its production process to American soil, Apple is directly addressing vulnerabilities in international supply chains. This strategy is becoming increasingly tangible, encompassing everything from semiconductor sourcing and enclosure fabrication to final device assembly.

From AI Servers to Desktop Computers

Apple’s Houston facility has been producing advanced AI servers for its US data centers since 2025, a timeline reportedly ahead of the original schedule. Now, the same site is slated to begin production of the compact Mac mini by the end of this year. This new manufacturing line will operate concurrently with a ramped-up output of servers.

The investment extends beyond merely increasing production capacity. A new Advanced Manufacturing Center, spanning approximately 1,850 square meters, is scheduled to open later this year. This center will focus on training specialized technical personnel on-site, effectively doubling the footprint of the Houston operation.
