Apex Critical Metals Unearths Dual-Zone Rare Earth System in Nebraska

A junior explorer has delivered drill results that could reshape perceptions of its Nebraska project, revealing a two-tiered mineralised structure with neodymium-praseodymium grades that eclipse industry benchmarks. The discovery adds a fresh layer of complexity to a deposit already drawing attention from institutional investors.

Neo Zone Delivers Standout NdPr Grades

The findings come from hole RIFT26-003 at the Rift Rare Earth Project, a 2,217-hectare holding in Nebraska. The drilling intersected two distinct mineralised horizons. The upper zone delivered an 80-metre section grading 2.29% total rare earth oxides (REO), while the deeper intercept — dubbed the "Neo Zone" — returned a 23.7-metre interval at 4.02% REO, embedded within a broader 124-metre section averaging 1.94% REO.

What sets the Neo Zone apart is its neodymium-praseodymium content. Global carbonatite deposits typically carry an NdPr ratio of 14% to 20%. Apex recorded intervals exceeding 30% in this lower zone — more than double the 16.4% NdPr ratio at MP Materials' Mountain Pass operation, the only active rare earths mine in North America.

The company has now confirmed the Neo Zone across two drill holes spaced approximately 120 metres apart, with mineralisation remaining open in all directions.

Market Reaction and Financial Position

Despite the technical significance of the results, the market response has been muted. Shares slipped 4.54% to €1.35 in Frankfurt trading on Wednesday. The stock has nonetheless posted a 125% gain over the past twelve months, though it remains more than 50% below the 52-week high of €3.00 reached in October 2025.

Apex carries a market capitalisation of roughly C$167 million — substantial for a pre-revenue explorer, reflecting investor appetite for the rare earths narrative. The company reported an annual loss of nearly US$11 million and negative free cash flow, but holds approximately US$13.5 million in liquid assets to fund ongoing operations.

The 30-day annualised volatility of nearly 54% is characteristic for a junior explorer of this size, contributing to price discrepancies across trading venues.

Strategic Outlook

Inclusion in the Sprott Rare Earths ETF has given Apex a degree of institutional visibility. The immediate catalyst for the share price will be the delivery of a formal resource estimate for the Rift project, which management targets for the second half of 2026. Additional drilling and mineralogical test work are planned in the interim.

The dual-zone discovery adds optionality to the project. While the upper horizon offers bulk tonnage potential, the Neo Zone's high NdPr concentration could prove economically decisive — particularly as US policymakers prioritise domestic rare earths supply chains. For now, Apex must balance exploration momentum against the financial realities of a pre-revenue business with a finite cash runway.
