Apex Critical Metals has secured C$15 million in fresh capital to accelerate drilling at its Nebraska rare earths project, yet the market response has been anything but enthusiastic. Shares slid 5.68% to €1.00, marking a stark disconnect between the company’s operational ambitions and investor sentiment. The selloff reflects unease over the structure of the financing round, which adds new shares and warrants that could weigh on the stock for months to come.

The private placement, closed in early June, involved the issuance of roughly 7.9 million units at C$1.90 each. Every unit consists of one common share plus a warrant exercisable at C$2.60 over a 24-month period. While the construction provides immediate exploration funding, it also expands the share count and creates a potential overhang should the warrants be exercised. Notably, the units are not subject to a Canadian hold period, meaning they can trade freely from day one, adding near-term liquidity but also selling pressure.

Management has directed the proceeds primarily toward the Rift project in Nebraska, where drilling is already underway. To date, approximately 12,000 meters have been completed across 18 holes, with results returned for six of them. Assays for the remaining 12 holes are still pending, representing the single biggest near-term catalyst for the stock. The company plans to add 16 to 18 more holes as part of a program that could reach 22,000 to 25,000 meters by September 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Apex Critical Metals?

The existing assays have outlined broad, continuous rare earth mineralisation over more than 300 metres of strike and more than 180 metres vertically. Two distinct mineralised horizons have been identified: the Trinity Zone, a high-grade rare earth layer in the upper portion of the carbonatite, and the Neo Zone, a deeper horizon where neodymium-praseodymium accounts for over 30% of the total rare earth oxide content. Confirmation of continuity in the pending assays would strengthen the geological model and support the company’s target of delivering a maiden mineral resource estimate in the first half of 2027.

Beyond drilling, Apex is advancing mineralogical and metallurgical studies. Activation Laboratories is performing X-ray diffraction analyses, while SGS Lakefield has been engaged for integrated mineral analysis on selected samples from both zones. Preliminary discussions are also underway with SGS Lakefield regarding a scoping-level metallurgical test programme, with a formal proposal expected in the coming weeks. For rare earth investors, these steps are critical because mineral deportment and processing behaviour ultimately determine whether exploration success can translate into economic viability.

The stock’s technical picture reflects the prevailing anxiety. The share price now trades well below the 50-day moving average, and the 200-day line near C$1.50 has receded further out of reach. The monthly loss stands at roughly 27%, while the relative strength index sits at 31.4, flirting with oversold territory. A 30-day volatility reading of around 55% underscores the nervousness surrounding the capital structure.

The next concrete data point will come when the results from the 12 outstanding assays are released. Positive numbers would provide management with the evidence needed to justify the expanded share base. Weak or inconsistent results, however, could slow the resource delineation timeline and intensify the current bearish mood. Until then, the stock remains hostage to the tension between exploration promise and market dilution.
