The antimony market is sending mixed signals. While the critical mineral's price has quadrupled to over $60,000 per tonne — up from roughly $15,000 — Antimony Resources' stock has taken a sharp U-turn after an initial 500% rally to C$1.65, now trading around C$1.37. The disconnect highlights the gap between commodity euphoria and the realities facing junior explorers.

China's Grip and the Search for Alternatives

Beijing's stranglehold on global supply remains the dominant force reshaping the antimony landscape. The country controls approximately 70% of worldwide production, and while China recently suspended its export ban to the US through November 2026, exporters still require licenses from Beijing for international sales. Deliveries to the American military remain entirely prohibited.

The structural need for Western supply alternatives hasn't diminished despite the partial easing. Spot prices reflect this tension: antimony currently trades at roughly $51.80 per kilogram, a level that, while off its summer 2025 record, still towers above early 2024 prices. Logistics disruptions tied to Middle East shipping routes and the Iran conflict have only tightened the squeeze further.

Drilling Toward a Defining Moment

Antimony Resources is racing to capitalize on the window of opportunity. The company's 10,000-metre drilling campaign at the Bald Hill project in New Brunswick is nearing completion, with the final metres expected to be finished by the end of April. Data from over 13,800 cumulative metres of drilling is now being fed to SRK Consulting, the Toronto-based firm tasked with producing the first NI 43-101-compliant resource estimate.

The main zone already shows mineralization extending 700 metres along strike and at least 350 metres deep. Final assay results are anticipated within three to four weeks, with the official resource filing targeted for late April or early May. The company has also reported 2.7 million tonnes of ore with grades of up to 4% antimony at Bald Hill.

Analyst Confidence and Parallel Development

The Augsburg-based investment bank GBC AG has stepped in with a buy rating and a C$3.00 price target, implying more than a doubling from current levels. The endorsement comes as Antimony Resources' exploration budget for the year sits fully funded.

Beyond the resource estimate, the company is laying groundwork for the next phase. Consulting firm GEMTEC began work in early April on a regulatory permitting roadmap, with initial environmental baseline studies slated to start this spring. A joint venture is also planning a local processing facility, targeting startup within roughly 16 months to handle North American ore on site.

Sector Peers Signal Broader Momentum

The wider market for antimony developers remains active. Alkane Resources produced 377 tonnes of antimony in the March quarter, while Resolution Minerals secured A$20 million from institutional investors on April 22. These moves underscore sustained capital appetite for Western supply chain alternatives — even as Antimony Resources navigates its own financing headwinds and the broader weakness gripping exploration stocks.

The company now faces a critical transition: moving from a speculative explorer to a project with a defined resource base. With two newly discovered, untested antimony zones on its expanded 2,000-hectare land package, the Bald Hill story is far from complete. But the immediate catalyst rests on that forthcoming resource estimate — and whether the numbers can bridge the gap between the metal's rally and the stock's retreat.
