Investors seeking to trade shares in the Australian construction materials producer Adbri will find the opportunity has vanished. The company, formerly listed as Adelaide Brighton, has now been fully delisted from public exchanges, concluding its chapter as a publicly traded stock following a successful acquisition.

A Consortium Acquisition Paves the Way

The final step in this transition occurred on July 2, 2024, when Adbri was officially delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). This action followed a decisive shareholder vote in June 2024, where a clear majority approved the takeover proposal. The acquisition was executed by a consortium comprising the global building materials giant CRH plc and the Australian Barro Group, which secured control of the established company. The transaction was finalized in early July.

Consequently, the American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) that traded in the United States under the ticker Adelaide BrightonADR have been rendered obsolete. These certificates, which once represented ownership in Adbri, no longer correspond to a live, traded security. This move brings to a close a corporate history that saw a final strategic rebranding in 2020, when Adelaide Brighton was renamed Adbri and issued new identifying codes.

Transition to Private Ownership

Adbri now operates as a privately held business under the direction of its new owners. With its exit from the public market, the company is no longer subject to standard financial reporting obligations and disclosure requirements mandated for listed entities.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Adelaide BrightonADR?

For the investment community, this development eliminates the option for direct equity investment in the Australian cement and lime manufacturer. All strategic decisions and financial performance will now be managed outside the scrutiny of the public markets, as Adbri has been fully integrated into the operational structures of CRH and the Barro Group.
