The semiconductor sector’s jitters deepened on Wednesday, dragging Ams Osram down 7.18 percent to close at €17.45. The slide came on the same day the Austrian sensor and lighting specialist held its annual general meeting — an event that, by contrast, offered shareholders little but harmony.

Inside the Premstätten venue, the mood was one of unity. Every agenda item sailed through with approval rates reaching as high as 100 percent. Andreas Gerstenmayer and Arunjai Mittal were both re-elected to the supervisory board for a term running to 2030, cementing a leadership team that the company believes can deliver long-term strategic oversight.

On the trading floor, that stability counted for nothing. A broad selloff in European technology stocks caught Ams Osram in its wake, wiping roughly a quarter off the share price in the space of a single week. The annualised volatility has soared to nearly 132 percent, reflecting the extreme nervousness gripping the chip sector.

From its 52-week peak of €26.70, the stock now sits more than a third lower. Yet the longer-term trendline offers a measure of reassurance: the share price remains well above the 200-day moving average of €11.48, and the year-to-date gain still stands at a hefty 105 percent. The Relative Strength Index, at 41.9 points, hovers in neutral territory — neither oversold nor overbought.

Market participants are now looking ahead to the next quarterly results for a fresh catalyst. The management’s guidance on the coming quarters will be critical in determining whether the stock can regain its upward trajectory in the second half of the year.
