Market analysts at Baader Bank have reaffirmed their buy rating for ams Osram, setting a price target of 12.60 Swiss Francs. This represents a potential upside of approximately 47% from the current trading level. The bank's optimistic stance is underpinned by a detailed earnings forecast that quantifies the company's ongoing strategic transformation.

From Restructuring Costs to Future Profitability

The financial projections outline a clear transition path. For the 2026 fiscal year, analysts still anticipate a net loss per share of 0.51 euros. This near-term pressure is attributed to the costs associated with the "Simplify" transformation initiative and the ongoing divestment of non-core business units. A significant turnaround, however, is forecast for 2027. Baader Bank expects earnings per share to swing to a profit of 0.36 euros, with a more than doubling to 0.90 euros per share projected for 2028. Throughout this period, the company's focus will remain on strengthening its balance sheet, with no dividends planned.

A Solid Foundation and a Streamlined Portfolio

The basis for this outlook is the recently concluded 2025 fiscal year. Despite continuous restructuring efforts, ams Osram delivered solid results: revenue of 3.32 billion euros, an adjusted EBITDA margin of 18.3%, and free cash flow of 144 million euros.

Concurrently, the portfolio simplification is nearing completion. The sale of the lamp business to Ushio was finalized in early March. Furthermore, the divestment of the non-optical sensor business to Infineon for about 570 million euros is imminent, with closure expected in the second quarter of 2026. This leaves the company focused on its core digital photonics segment. Notably, in 2025, this division achieved a record number of design wins, representing future revenue potential exceeding 5 billion euros.

Driving Efficiency and Margin Targets

Central to the recovery is the "Simplify" program, which aims to deliver annualized cost savings of 200 million euros by 2028. To align the cost structure with the leaner portfolio, a global reduction of roughly 2,000 positions is planned. The long-term ambition is to achieve an adjusted EBITDA margin exceeding 25% in the semiconductor business by 2030.

The first concrete test of this trajectory will come with the Q1 2026 results, scheduled for release on May 7. For this quarter, ams Osram anticipates revenue between 710 and 810 million euros and an adjusted EBITDA margin around 15%. This figure is notably below the full-year target, reflecting both seasonal patterns and the deconsolidation of the sold business units. The pace at which the margin normalizes in subsequent quarters will be a key indicator of whether the bullish 2027-2028 forecasts are built on a stable foundation.
