AMD Secures Landmark AI Partnership with Meta in Multi-Billion Dollar Agreement

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has landed a transformative agreement with Meta Platforms, marking a significant strategic shift in the artificial intelligence hardware landscape. The multi-year partnership, which extends beyond a simple supply contract, is poised to bolster AMD's standing as a formidable competitor in the AI chip sector while supporting Meta's drive to diversify its technology supply chain.
A Deal of Unprecedented Scale
The scope of this arrangement is monumental, with estimated contract values ranging from $60 billion to over $100 billion across a five-year term. Central to the agreement is AMD's commitment to supply up to 6 gigawatts of data center capacity to the social media behemoth. Shipments for this capacity are scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026.
To fulfill this order, AMD will deploy its Instinct MI450 graphics processing units alongside its next-generation EPYC server processors, codenamed "Venice." Investor sentiment turned sharply positive following the Tuesday announcement, propelling AMD's share price to 181.56 euros.
Strategic Equity Incentives Structure
A distinctive feature of this collaboration is its financial framework, which incorporates a major equity incentive. As part of the deal, Meta will receive warrants providing the right to purchase up to 160 million shares of AMD stock. If fully exercised, this would equate to an approximate 10 percent ownership stake in the chip designer.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying AMD?
However, the vesting of these warrants is contingent upon AMD meeting specific delivery milestones. Furthermore, a complete exercise of the option requires AMD's share price to reach a target of $600. This performance-linked structure mirrors a similar arrangement AMD established with OpenAI in 2025.
Meta's Aggressive Capital Expenditure Drive
This partnership is a cornerstone of Meta's strategy to broaden its AI hardware sourcing. The company has outlined massive capital expenditure plans for its 2026 fiscal year, budgeting between $115 billion and $135 billion to meet its immense computational needs. The initial delivery phase of one gigawatt, set to begin in late 2026, solidifies AMD's position as a critical infrastructure partner for leading technology conglomerates.
