Almonty Industries: A Valuation Premium Built on Strategic Supply

Almonty's tungsten stock trades at a huge premium as its Korean mine ramps up, aiming to supply 40% of non-Chinese global demand. A US HQ move aligns with Pentagon sourcing rules.

The stock of Almonty Industries, a tungsten producer, is commanding a significant valuation premium. Trading at 22.9 times book value, it far exceeds the Canadian mining sector average of 3.3x and a peer group average of 7.2x. This lofty multiple reflects a potent combination of strategic positioning and tangible operational progress that has propelled the shares to a new 52-week high of 32.07 Canadian dollars.

Fueling the recent surge is a wave of analyst coverage. Texas Capital initiated coverage on April 16 with a buy recommendation, joining a growing consensus. DA Davidson holds a price target of $25 US, while B. Riley Financial targets $23. Oppenheimer rates the stock "Outperform" with a fair value estimate of $19. For a resource company of this size, such unified support is notable and underscores confidence in its production roadmap.

Operationally, the heart of the investment thesis beats in South Korea. The Phase 1 commissioning of the processing plant at the Sangdong mine was completed in March. The site currently processes approximately 640,000 tonnes of ore annually, producing 2,300 tonnes of tungsten concentrate. The goal is to double this capacity by 2027. At that scale, Sangdong could supply up to 40% of global tungsten demand outside of China, which currently controls roughly 88% of worldwide supply.

This strategic importance is being cemented by a major corporate shift. Almonty is severing its Canadian roots by moving its headquarters from Toronto to Dillon, Montana. The relocation, following the acquisition of the Gentung Browns Lake project and a successful NASDAQ listing, is a deliberate move to position the company closer to US government agencies and defense contractors. The Montana project, situated on a former Union Carbide site with a resource of 7.53 million tonnes, is slated for a production restart by the end of 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Almonty?

The US government is already a key partner. Almonty's tungsten has been exempted from US counter-tariffs, linked to a long-term supply agreement with Global Tungsten & Powders in Pennsylvania. This relationship will become even more critical under a Pentagon mandate requiring US defense contractors to source tungsten exclusively from non-Chinese suppliers starting January 1, 2027.

Financially, the company appears robust. Following a December capital raise, Almonty holds liquid assets of 268.4 million CAD. Its 2025 annual revenue climbed 13% to 32.5 million CAD, driven by a sharp rise in tungsten prices. This financial strength supports the ambitious expansion plans.

The share performance has been extraordinary. Year-to-date, the stock has advanced approximately 167%, contributing to a staggering 710% gain over the past twelve months. It now trades a massive 147% above its 200-day moving average.

Almonty at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

While a discounted cash flow model suggests a fair value of 43.36 CAD per share—above the current price—the immediate catalyst is clear. DA Davidson expects full commercial operation at Sangdong by the second quarter of 2026. Successfully ramping up this flagship project on schedule is the critical test that will determine whether the current market premium is not just speculative, but fundamentally justified.
