Accenture is pursuing an aggressive dual approach to artificial intelligence, combining one of the largest corporate deployments of Microsoft 365 Copilot with a fresh equity stake in an AI startup targeting Fortune 500 clients. The consulting giant has completed the global rollout of Copilot to 743,000 employees across more than 120 countries, while simultaneously participating in a $110 million Series C funding round for Netomi, a developer of AI-powered customer communication platforms.

The internal deployment began cautiously in August 2023 with just a few hundred executives, scaled to 20,000 users, and only then expanded in phases to the entire workforce. Accenture supplemented the rollout with one-on-one coaching for managers, group training sessions, and an internal community on Viva Engage where staff shared practical use cases. Among the roughly 200,000 employees who have used Copilot for an extended period, the monthly active usage rate stands at 89 percent. Some 84 percent said they would miss the tool if it were removed — a sign of genuine habit formation rather than fleeting curiosity.

Productivity metrics from the rollout are striking. Ninety-seven percent of surveyed users report completing routine tasks 15 times faster, and more than half have observed meaningful efficiency gains. In the sales division, the Copilot-powered analytics tool D3 — developed by Avanade, the joint venture between Accenture and Microsoft — generates an average of 43 percent more sales opportunities by automatically aggregating business reports and market data.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Accenture?

These figures arrive at a strategically opportune moment. A February study from the National Bureau of Economic Research, surveying nearly 6,000 executives across four countries, found that almost 90 percent saw no measurable AI impact on employment or productivity. Accenture’s data directly contradicts that finding — a message Microsoft is likely eager to amplify.

The Netomi investment adds an external dimension to Accenture’s AI push. The Series C round, in which Accenture Ventures participated, targets the expansion of so-called agentic AI systems — platforms that independently execute tasks and complete workflows without human intervention. The signal is clear: IT services firms are shifting their growth focus from headcount expansion to measurable productivity gains.

Accenture’s stock performance tells a different story. Shares trade at roughly €154, more than 43 percent below their level 12 months ago. The 52-week high of €290.50 remains distant, with the stock hovering near its annual low. The dividend yield has climbed above 3.6 percent, reflecting the price decline.

The company positions itself as both a major customer of Microsoft’s AI infrastructure and a living reference project for corporate clients weighing their own AI investments. Whether the internal productivity gains translate into revenue growth in upcoming quarterly results will determine whether Accenture’s AI bet is more than an internal efficiency program.
