ABO Wind Clears Critical Restructuring Hurdle
12.03.2026 - 03:54:11 | boerse-global.deThe renewable energy developer ABO Wind AG has passed a crucial milestone in its ongoing financial restructuring. Following a dramatic share price collapse exceeding 90%, bondholders have now overwhelmingly approved a key plan, granting the company vital operational breathing room. This formal step marks a potential turning point, though questions remain about its long-term efficacy in navigating the firm's deepest crisis.
Bondholder Vote Unlocks Operational Capacity
A decisive majority of over 99% of the company's bondholders voted in favor of the restructuring proposals on Monday. This followed an initial attempt that failed due to insufficient participation. The core of the approved resolution is the suspension of so-called negative covenants until the end of 2026.
This suspension is fundamental for ABO Wind's day-to-day business. It allows the company to once again provide standard bank guarantees. Without this ability to offer collateral, participation in essential tender processes and tariff auctions for new energy projects would be impossible. This financial respite is supported by a standstill agreement already secured with its financing banks in January.
Strategic Shift Amidst Record Losses
The urgent need for these measures is underscored by the company's financial forecast. For the concluded 2025 fiscal year, ABO Wind anticipates a record loss of approximately €170 million—the first deficit in its nearly three-decade history. This result is primarily driven by value adjustments in the tens of millions on projects both in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. The market's reaction to this trajectory was severe: the share price plummeted from €45.20 last July to a low of €4.25 in February.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ABO WIND AG?
Alongside the financial restructuring, management is pushing forward with an efficiency program and a strategic overhaul. The goal is to transform ABO Wind from a pure project developer into an independent power producer. Operationally, there are initial signs of progress; the company recently secured contracts for three solar parks with a combined capacity of 50 megawatts, with construction slated to begin this autumn.
The Path to Recovery
Whether this restructuring course will deliver the hoped-for financial turnaround will become clearer in the coming months based on concrete data. A critical test arrives on June 22, when management must present the audited annual financial statements for 2025. This report will provide tangible evidence of whether the implemented cost-saving measures are taking effect and if the recovery plan is operationally viable for the current year.
