The departure of Chief Financial Officer Alexander Reinicke has plunged ABO Energy into deeper uncertainty, stripping the renewable developer of key leadership amid its most severe crisis. The Wiesbaden-based company is navigating its first annual loss in nearly three decades while its share price has collapsed, shedding roughly 85 percent of its value since August 2025.

A provisional internal team is now handling finance duties, adding strain to an already complex restructuring process. This management gap emerges just weeks after the company secured vital breathing room from its creditors. In March, bondholders agreed to suspend a key negative pledge covenant until the end of 2026, granting the beleaguered firm crucial operational flexibility.

Preliminary figures for 2025 reveal the scale of the challenge, with the group facing an estimated consolidated net loss of approximately €170 million. The company needs this creditor-approved leeway to provide collateral and access essential credit lines. The finalized, audited financial statements for 2025, due for release on June 22, will provide the definitive accounting of the damage.

Operationally, ABO Energy is showing tentative signs of stabilization. Recent auctions by Germany's Federal Network Agency resulted in awards for wind farm extensions totaling over 16 megawatts. New building permits in Saarland and North Rhine-Westphalia have lifted the company's approved German portfolio to around 650 MW. Internationally, asset sales are generating needed cash, including the final payment for a Colombian solar park and the sale of wind farm rights in Canada.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ABO WIND AG?

The stock, however, reflects persistent fragility. Shares are currently hovering around €5.80, trading just below the significant 20-day moving average. A sustained break above this technical level could temporarily interrupt the dominant downtrend.

Broader political risks in Berlin further complicate the outlook. An open policy dispute between Economics Minister Katherina Reiche and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil has created regulatory uncertainty. Discussions around a potential windfall tax and calls for corrections to the energy transition policy are eroding the planning security ABO Energy desperately needs for its multi-year recovery plan.

Management has outlined a tight schedule for the coming months, with three critical dates defining the turnaround tempo. Following the June annual report, an ordinary shareholder meeting is set for August 13 in Wiesbaden, with the publication of half-year figures for 2026 scheduled for September 1. The board must present a credible, detailed restructuring concept by June at the latest.

ABO WIND AG at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The long-term strategy involves a fundamental shift from pure project development to becoming an independent power producer with its own assets, aiming to generate steadier income streams. Financing this transition remains the unresolved question, as the current plan lacks a solid foundation without the entry of new investors. Despite the profound losses, company leadership maintains its target of achieving a net profit of €50 million by 2027. The audited June report will determine if that goal is still within reach or if the hard-won creditor agreement faces an immediate new test.
