A health advice centre in Germany’s Aachen region has released its 2025 annual report, revealing it handled 2,483 first-time and follow-up consultations over the past calendar year. The figures were presented to the local committee for social affairs, health and seniors, underscoring the project’s role in expanding low-threshold health services across the area.
Andrea Klebingat, who runs the Gesundheitskiosk, pointed to the high number of repeat visits as evidence that users increasingly trust the service. Rather than offering one-off advice, the centre’s model is built around longer-term support for clients navigating health and social challenges.
Elif Tunay-Cot, managing director of the SPRUNGbrett gGmbH, the non-profit that operates the hub, stressed the importance of linguistic accessibility. To help people from diverse backgrounds find their way through the healthcare system, consultations are now available in eight languages: German, English, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Arabic and Kurdish.
Providing accessible health support in multiple languages is a challenge many organisations face. For UK employers, a clear and compliant health and safety framework is just as essential for protecting a diverse workforce. Who Uses the Service and What They Seek Help With
Data from 2025 shows that most visitors fall into the 35-to-64 age bracket, with a significant share also coming from older residents. Ukrainian nationals formed the largest single group among those seeking assistance.
The range of issues addressed is broad and tied closely to everyday realities. Alongside standard prevention work and referrals to local doctors, staff help with filling out applications, offer advice on diet and exercise, and tackle topics such as mental health, unemployment, addiction and care needs. The aim is to provide holistic support rather than narrow, single-issue guidance.
Decentralised Setup and Local Partnerships
To keep services close to residents, the Gesundheitskiosk operates from a main site in the Aachen Arkaden shopping centre, plus branch offices in nine other municipalities across the StädteRegion Aachen. A mobile health bus supplements these fixed locations for on-the-ground outreach.
SPRUNGbrett gGmbH runs the project in close cooperation with the AOK Rheinland/Hamburg health insurance fund and the StädteRegion Aachen authority. Beyond individual counselling, the centre takes part in community initiatives such as the AOK’s “Mach dich fit” programme and women’s exercise sessions organised together with the Yunus Emre Mosque.
Funding Secured Despite Shifting Legal Landscape
The Aachen Gesundheitskiosk opened on 1 April 2022 as the first facility of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since February 2025, however, there has been no explicit legal basis for such centres. Operations in the StädteRegion have continued because the AOK Rheinland/Hamburg and the regional authority stepped in to cover the costs, ensuring the preventive service remains available to the public.
