Atlas Air, the world's largest operator of widebody freighters, has placed a firm order for 20 A350F aircraft and secured options for an additional 20 units. Deliveries for these new freighters are scheduled to commence in 2029. The aircraft are intended to replace Atlas Air's aging fleet of Boeing 747 models. This decision by a historically Boeing-centric operator underscores the growing competitiveness of Airbus's offering in the cargo segment and pushes the A350F's order book into triple-digit territory.

Technical Advantages Drive the Decision

Market analysis indicates that the shift was primarily driven by the A350F's technical specifications and earlier availability compared to Boeing's competing 777-8F model. A key factor is the Airbus freighter's extensive use of lightweight composite materials, resulting in an aircraft approximately 46 tonnes lighter than comparable alternatives.
