Investors in Plug Power are facing a significant legal deadline on April 3, 2026. The law firm Faruqi & Faruqi has issued a reminder regarding the registration cutoff for a class-action lawsuit. The suit alleges the company made misleading statements between January and November of 2025.

Central to the allegations are concerns surrounding the availability of a $1.66 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy and a strategic pivot toward smaller-scale projects. When activities related to this loan facility were suspended in late 2025, the company's share price plummeted to approximately $2.25.

Operational Gains Amidst Cautious Guidance

Despite the overhanging legal risk, Plug Power has demonstrated tangible business progress. The company reported 2025 revenue of about $710 million, representing growth of nearly 13% year-over-year. A key driver was the GenEco electrolyzer business, which contributed roughly $187 million in sales. Furthermore, Plug Power returned to a positive gross profit margin for the first time during the fourth quarter of 2025.

A leadership change occurred in early March, with Jose Luis Crespo taking over as the new CEO following the departure of Andrew Marsh. Crespo’s primary challenge will be to solidify the company’s turnaround, especially as current revenue projections for 2026 remain below broader market expectations.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Plug Power?

Market Sentiment and Share Performance

Analyst coverage reflects a climate of pronounced uncertainty. Among the 16 active ratings, the prevailing stance is neutral: seven recommend "Hold," five advise "Sell," and four suggest "Buy." The average price target sits at $3.00, implying a potential upside of around 35% from current levels. However, individual targets vary widely from $0.80 to $7.00, highlighting deep divisions regarding the stock's future trajectory.

Plug Power shares have advanced roughly 25% over the past month, though recent trading suggests momentum may be stalling. The fundamental question for investors is whether the operational recovery and sales growth can outweigh the ongoing lawsuit and profitability pressures under new management. The picture may become clearer after April 3, when the scale of shareholder participation in the legal action will be known.
