Whirlpool Corporation lowered its 2026 outlook on October 26 after third-quarter sales fell and profitability weakened. The update adds pressure to Whirlpool S.A.'s Brazilian preferred shares, whose business is linked to the group's Latin America operations.
Lower Sales Outlook Meets Weak Demand
In its official third-quarter release, Whirlpool said consolidated net sales fell 8.8 percent year over year to USD 3.677 billion. The company reported a GAAP loss of USD 249 million available to common shareholders, compared with net earnings of USD 73 million a year earlier.
Ongoing EBIT declined 46.1 percent to USD 97 million, while ongoing diluted earnings per share moved to a loss of USD 0.21 from earnings of USD 2.09. Whirlpool now expects 2026 net sales of about USD 14.5 billion and an ongoing loss per share of USD 1.30. The company had previously guided to ongoing earnings per share of USD 2.50 to USD 3.00, according to the release.
Latin America Shows Mixed Signals
Major Domestic Appliances Latin America generated sales of USD 858 million, up 6.9 percent from the prior-year quarter. EBIT, however, fell to USD 18 million from USD 45 million, leaving the regional margin under pressure as product mix changed following the bankruptcy reorganization of Grupo Casas Bahia.
Whirlpool announced price increases of up to 10 percent across Latin America and a 7 percent increase for North America in the fourth quarter. Management also expects full-year operating cash flow of about USD 700 million, free cash flow of about USD 300 million and year-end net debt below USD 4.5 billion.
