Profitability improves, risks remain

  • TrueBlue returned to GAAP profitability in the third quarter as PeopleReady led growth across the business.
  • Management expects continued expansion in the fourth quarter, while gross-margin pressure and working-capital needs remain key investor issues.
  • PeopleManagement and PeopleSolutions also returned to revenue growth, but at a slower pace than PeopleReady.

TrueBlue returned to quarterly profitability in the period ended September 27, 2026, as revenue growth in its PeopleReady division and lower selling, general and administrative costs offset pressure on gross margin. In its earnings release published on Wednesday, November 4, the company reported revenue of USD 520.737 million, up 21 percent from the year-earlier quarter, and diluted earnings of USD 0.28 per share versus a loss of USD 0.06.

Net income reached USD 9.245 million, compared with a loss of USD 1.916 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose to USD 20.749 million from USD 10.642 million, while adjusted earnings per diluted share increased to USD 0.33 from USD 0.03. The improvement came despite gross margin declining to 20.5 percent from 22.7 percent, reflecting the revenue mix.

PeopleReady leads the recovery

PeopleReady revenue rose 34.4 percent to USD 337.966 million, making the unit the main contributor to the quarterly increase. PeopleManagement revenue rose 1.9 percent to USD 135.362 million, while PeopleSolutions revenue edged up 0.9 percent to USD 47.409 million.

Staffing Industry Analysts said on November 5 that energy clients helped drive the PeopleReady performance. The publication also reported that TrueBlue exceeded its forecast and the average analyst revenue estimate of USD 468.1 million. Management expects fourth-quarter revenue between USD 499 million and USD 519 million, equivalent to year-over-year growth of 20 percent to 24 percent.
