- Taesa is studying battery storage opportunities but wants clearer rules before committing capital.

Taesa stock is in focus after the Brazilian transmission company signaled interest in battery storage while cautioning that the market rules are not yet clear. At a conference in Rio de Janeiro on October 20, 2026, Taesa Chief Financial and Investor Relations Officer Cátia Pereira told BNamericas that the company was studying the opportunity but needed greater regulatory clarity.
Storage opportunity meets regulatory caution
Battery systems could complement transmission infrastructure by helping move electricity toward consumption centers. Pereira said the technology fits the transmission sector, but stressed that storage contracts carry risks that differ from conventional concession agreements.
The main uncertainty concerns how contracting costs will be allocated. For Taesa, the issue matters because its established transmission business is built around concession contracts with more predictable revenue arrangements, while the storage framework is still developing.
Auctions set the next milestones
Brazil plans its first battery storage auctions for December 2 and 4. The tenders are intended to contract capacity for the power system from 2028 and could cover between 2 gigawatts and 5 gigawatts, with investments of up to 20 billion Brazilian reais, according to BNamericas.
Taesa is also studying a planned 2027 transmission auction lot that would include the first battery system linked to transmission in Brazil's National Interconnected System. The proposed contract would run for 18 years, shorter than the 30-year term used for other lots, reflecting battery useful life. Taesa does not currently intend to join Brazil's second 2026 transmission auction and is focusing on integrating five assets acquired from Energisa in August and consolidating recently delivered projects.
Taesa's investor-relations website schedules the release of its third-quarter 2026 results for November 11, 2026, after trading ends on B3, followed by a webcast on November 12.
Taesa's transmission business
Taesa operates electricity transmission concessions in Brazil, with revenue concentrated in the transmission segment and a portfolio spanning multiple Brazilian states. AUVP Analítica describes Taesa as one of Brazil's largest private transmission companies by Allowed Annual Revenue, with lines in operation, projects under construction and dozens of concessions. In the listed Brazilian utilities universe, Alupar is a smaller transmission-focused peer in the comparison shown by AUVP Analítica, while CPFL Energia is larger and more diversified; Energisa is another relevant utility counterpart.
