- Real Estate Solutions expanded strongly, supported by the MCS acquisition and higher credit and valuation services revenue.
- Management expects industry headwinds to continue into next year.
- The title segment grew revenue while pretax income declined from the prior-year quarter.
Stewart Information Services reported higher revenue but weaker profitability for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026. The company release, carried by Financial Times Company Announcements, showed total revenue of USD 900.7 million, up from USD 796.9 million a year earlier.
Profitability Weakened Despite Higher Revenue
Net income attributable to Stewart fell to USD 30.3 million from USD 44.3 million in the prior-year quarter. Diluted earnings per share declined to USD 0.98 from USD 1.55. On an adjusted basis, net income decreased to USD 41.2 million from USD 46.7 million, while adjusted diluted earnings per share fell to USD 1.33 from USD 1.64.
Pretax income before noncontrolling interests dropped to USD 45.6 million from USD 61.2 million, and the pretax margin narrowed to 5.1 percent from 7.7 percent. The company said the prior-year quarter included USD 5.6 million of pretax net realized and unrealized gains, mainly from equity securities and a property sale.
Segments Show Diverging Trends
Title operating revenue increased 5 percent to USD 690.5 million, driven mainly by agency title revenue and higher domestic commercial activity. Title pretax income declined 23 percent to USD 47.5 million, while the domestic commercial fee per file decreased to USD 16,300 from USD 17,700.
Revenue in Real Estate Solutions rose 68 percent to USD 196.5 million, primarily because of the MCS acquisition and stronger credit information and valuation services. Segment pretax income increased 41 percent to USD 10.3 million. Corporate expenses rose mainly because of higher interest costs on increased debt balances, while operating cash flow fell to USD 46.6 million from USD 92.6 million.
