- Revenue growth was led by real estate solutions and agency title activity.
- Acquisition-related costs and higher operating expenses weighed on profitability.
- Management said industry headwinds were likely to continue into next year.
Stewart Information Services Corporation reported higher revenue but lower profitability for the third quarter ended September 30, 2026, according to PR Newswire. The October 21 release showed total revenue of 900.7 million US dollars, up from 796.9 million US dollars a year earlier, while net income attributable to Stewart fell to 30.3 million US dollars from 44.3 million US dollars.
Profit declines despite higher revenue
GAAP diluted earnings per share decreased to 0.98 US dollars from 1.55 US dollars in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted net income declined to 41.2 million US dollars from 46.7 million US dollars, while adjusted diluted earnings per share fell to 1.33 US dollars from 1.64 US dollars.
Pretax income before noncontrolling interests dropped to 45.6 million US dollars from 61.2 million US dollars. The pretax margin narrowed to 5.1 percent from 7.7 percent. Stewart said the prior-year quarter benefited from 5.6 million US dollars in pretax net realized and unrealized gains, while the current quarter included acquisition-related intangible amortization, integration expenses, and severance and office-closure costs in its non-GAAP reconciliation.
Real estate solutions expands
The title segment generated operating revenue of 690.5 million US dollars, an increase of 5 percent. Agency gross title revenue rose 7 percent, while direct title revenue gained 2 percent, supported in part by higher domestic commercial activity. Domestic commercial closed orders improved 18 percent, although the average fee per file decreased 8 percent.
Real estate solutions revenue increased 68 percent to 196.5 million US dollars, driven mainly by the MCS acquisition and higher credit information and valuation services revenue. Adjusted pretax income in the segment rose 56 percent to 20.6 million US dollars, but its adjusted pretax margin narrowed to 10.5 percent from 11.3 percent.
Management sees continued headwinds
Chief Executive Officer Fred Eppinger said Stewart faced increased industry headwinds that the company expected to continue into next year. Management said it remained focused on growing market share while maintaining disciplined operating execution.
