Shiseido stock gains 1.86 percent as profit reform gathers pace
Published on 10/07/2026 at 05:49 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSShiseido Company, Limited (ISIN JP3351600006) was trading at JPY 3,279 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on October 7, 2026 at 12:33 p.m. JST, up 1.86 percent from the prior close. The move follows a first-half earnings update that showed structural reforms lifting profitability while sales remained under pressure in selected regions.
Profit reform gains traction
According to Yahoo Finance in the August 5, 2026 earnings call, first-half sales totaled JPY 499 billion. Core operating profit reached JPY 44.4 billion, an increase of JPY 21.1 billion from the prior-year period.
The comparison is material for investors: first-half revenue declined 1 percent, but core operating profit more than doubled on the company measure. Management kept its full-year outlook unchanged and said the core operating profit target carries a 7 percent margin objective.
Regional risks remain visible
The earnings call linked the improvement to structural reforms, cost management and better productivity, with the Americas returning to a positive core operating profit of JPY 2 billion. The company also said global organic growth improved from a 3 percent decline in the first quarter to 2 percent growth in the second quarter.
China travel retail and the Americas remain the key counterweights to the improvement. Shiseido said competition is intense in EMEA and the Americas, while retailer restructuring and channel conditions continue to affect mainland China travel retail.
Product execution adds another test. Management said the NARS natural matte long-wear foundation fell short of expectations in the first half, while Elixir recorded growth of more than 80 percent in the period.
Analysts see further upside
According to Investing.com, the consensus rating is Buy based on 17 analysts, including 8 Buy, 8 Hold and 1 Sell recommendation. The average 12-month target is JPY 3,645.0, with a high of JPY 4,530 and a low of JPY 2,494.
Against the JPY 3,279 market price on October 7, 2026, the consensus target lies 11.2 percent above the price. MarketScreener reported on September 7, 2026 that Jefferies raised its target from JPY 3,500 to JPY 3,900 and kept a Buy rating.
