- Shinko Electric agreed to acquire Japan Display's Mobara site and plans advanced semiconductor packaging operations there.
- The handover is targeted for the end of March 2027, with operations planned for fiscal 2028.
- The company's shares were delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market on June 6, 2025.
On September 30, 2026, Shinko Electric Industries agreed to acquire Japan Display's Mobara plant in Chiba Prefecture and signed a separate agreement to transfer the site's western area to FICT. Kikai News reported that the transaction is intended to expand capacity for advanced semiconductor packages used in applications such as AI accelerators.
Mobara deal sets a long runway
The assets cover 373,482.91 square meters of land, buildings and related facilities. Shinko Electric plans to use mainly the eastern area, while FICT is to take the western area covering 232,744.59 square meters. The scheduled handover from Japan Display and transfer to FICT are set for the end of March 2027, subject to future procedures, with operations targeted for fiscal 2028.
The project gives Shinko Electric an additional site as demand rises for larger and more multilayered flip-chip products. The agreements do not establish an immediate production ramp; equipment investment plans still have to support the planned operating start.
Delisting changes the investor lens
Shinko Electric's shares were delisted from the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market on June 6, 2025, according to the company's IR archive. The Mobara agreement is therefore a corporate-development story rather than a current listed-equity trading signal.
For the business, the key milestones are the property handover, the capital investment plan and the timing of production start. The scale of eventual output will determine how materially the site changes Shinko Electric's semiconductor packaging capacity.
Shinko Electric's semiconductor focus
Shinko Electric Industries makes semiconductor packages and package substrates, including flip-chip products for high-performance applications such as AI accelerators. The company is based in Nagano, Japan, and is expanding capacity across plants in Chikuma, Takaoka, Kitasato and Wakaho. The Mobara project is intended to strengthen its production system alongside those existing sites, while FICT remains a partner in the flip-chip package business.
