- Proceeds from the SHBFinance transaction are expected to support core banking activities and technology investment.
Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank reported an estimated VND 14,309 billion in pre-tax profit for the first nine months of 2026, up 17 percent year over year. The figures were presented at the bank's investor meeting in Hanoi on October 15 and published by SHB on October 19.
Profit growth meets expansion plans
The estimated result represents about 81 percent of SHB's 2026 annual profit plan. Total assets reached an estimated VND 993,512 billion at September 30, while market funding stood at about VND 720,839 billion and outstanding credit at approximately VND 678,540 billion.
Operating income for the nine-month period was estimated at VND 26,300 billion, with non-interest income expected to account for nearly 30 percent. SHB also reported an estimated return on equity of 25.93 percent and a cost-to-income ratio of approximately 19.21 percent.
Capital and funding remain central
SHB said it had completed the issuance of an additional 750 million shares. The bank is completing procedures to record charter capital of VND 53,442 billion and to list the new shares for trading, subject to the required regulatory steps.
The bank also said Krungsri, a Thai bank within Japan's MUFG group, had made full payment for the remaining 50 percent of SHBFinance, now known as SFinance. SHB expects to record a profit from the transaction in the fourth quarter, with the accounting impact depending on the transaction value, carrying value and recognition date.
International funding is another part of the strategy. On October 12, SHB announced a US$340 million loan agreement coordinated by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, with a three-year term from the first drawdown. The bank said its Singapore dollar bonds had received an AA long-term issue rating from S&P Global Ratings and had begun trading in Singapore.
Banking model and competitive context
SHB operates across corporate banking, retail banking and digital banking in Vietnam. Its investor presentation described a model built around corporate customers and their wider ecosystems, with services including payments, cash-flow management, guarantees and trade finance. The bank also plans to invest nearly VND 6,000 billion in technology and digitalisation between 2026 and 2030.
