Richmond Mutual Bancorporation reported higher year-on-year earnings for the first quarter of 2026 in a release dated April 23, while preparing for a proposed combination with Farmers Bancorp. The company reported net income of $2.8 million, or $0.28 diluted earnings per share, compared with $2.0 million, or $0.20 per share, in the year-earlier quarter. The results were announced by Richmond Mutual Bancorporation.
Higher margin supports earnings
Net interest income increased 11.6 percent from the first quarter of 2025 to $11.4 million. The annualized net interest margin widened to 3.10 percent from 2.79 percent, as higher asset yields and lower funding costs supported lending income.
Credit costs remained an investor focus. The provision for credit losses was $693,000, while nonperforming loans and leases represented 1.48 percent of total loans and leases at March 31, 2026. Management said it was monitoring an increase in nonaccrual loans on a case-by-case basis.
Merger sets next milestone
Richmond Mutual said all required regulatory approvals for its proposed merger with Farmers Bancorp had been received. At the time of the release, shareholder votes were scheduled for May 26 and May 27, with closing expected in the second quarter subject to the remaining conditions.
Farmers Bancorp shareholders were to receive 3.40 Richmond Mutual shares for each Farmers share. The company said the combined organization would continue trading under the RMBI ticker, while the transaction value would fluctuate with the Richmond Mutual stock price before completion.
Business model and market position
Headquartered in Richmond, Indiana, Richmond Mutual Bancorporation is the holding company for First Bank Richmond, a community-oriented institution offering deposit, lending, trust and other financial services. Its branch network serves communities in Indiana and Ohio, with products spanning commercial, residential and consumer lending as well as lease finance. The company is a smaller, locally focused banking group competing for deposits and loans with larger regional banks and other community institutions in its operating markets.
For investors, the quarter combines improved spread income with higher credit-loss provisions and execution risk around the proposed merger. The next material milestones were the shareholder votes and the subsequent completion and integration of the transaction.
Broader banking conditions remain relevant as interest rates influence funding costs, loan demand and credit quality.
