Reece stock faces a mixed operating picture after strong ANZ growth and softer US demand. Analysts are watching margins and expansion costs.

Reece balances regional momentum

  • Reece reported strong first-quarter sales growth in Australia and New Zealand, while US demand remained more subdued.
  • Analysts are weighing resilient ANZ trading against margin and housing-market risks in the United States.
  • The next focus is execution in the US network and the company\'s cautious outlook for the second half of fiscal 2027.

Reece delivered a mixed first-quarter update at its annual general meeting on October 30, with strong momentum in Australia and New Zealand offsetting a softer US market. The Bull reported on November 2 that group sales revenue rose 4.3 percent year over year to AUD 2.510 billion, while constant-currency growth reached 8.7 percent.

Australia and New Zealand provided the clearest support. Sales in the region increased 12.8 percent, helped by solid volumes and mid-single-digit price inflation. The Bull said management described trading conditions in the region as strong, while the US environment remained soft.

US expansion remains the swing factor

US sales rose 5.6 percent, but like-for-like growth was only 2.4 percent. The Bull linked the slower underlying performance to weak residential construction, higher mortgage costs and pressure on housing affordability. Reece is also building exposure to non-residential US demand, including data center projects, although that activity remains a relatively small contributor.

Morningstar's October 30 analysis said first-quarter sales grew 9 percent on a constant-currency basis, with Australia and New Zealand up 13 percent and US sales up 6 percent including new stores, or 2 percent without them. The same report said Reece shares rose 9 percent around the update, but the company's US acquisition strategy remains an investment risk because returns may be diluted if new branches do not scale as planned.

Analysts test the recovery case

The operating split leaves investors balancing domestic resilience against the cost of continued US expansion. The Bull noted that management's cautious stance on the second half of fiscal 2027 points to no quick recovery in US like-for-like sales. For Reece stock, the next test is whether network expansion and digital investment can translate into stronger margins as demand normalizes.

Business spans three markets

Reece distributes plumbing supplies, bathroom products, waterworks and heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration products. The company serves trade customers and residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across Australia, New Zealand and the United States, according to Reece and Morningstar.

Morningstar lists Fletcher Building, James Hardie Industries and Ferguson Enterprises among Reece's competitors. Reece has a strong regional position in Australia and New Zealand, while Ferguson is a larger North American distribution peer and Fletcher Building and James Hardie have broader building-products exposure.

That competitive mix makes regional execution important: Reece's ANZ business is currently the stronger growth engine, while its US network offers scale potential but remains more exposed to construction conditions and integration risk.
