Punjab National Bank keeps MCLR steady as PNB stock posts Q1 profit growth
Published on 10/01/2026 at 10:01 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSPunjab National Bank (INE160A01022) kept its one-year Marginal Cost of Funds-Based Lending Rate at 8.80 percent while PNB stock followed a 213.60 percent standalone profit increase in Q1 FY27. The rate decision, reported by Sahi on September 30, 2026, leaves the key one-year lending benchmark unchanged while the three-month rate rises to 8.50 percent.
Profit growth meets stable lending rates
Sahi reported that standalone net profit reached INR 5,253.29 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with INR 1,675.00 crore in Q1 FY26. That is a year-on-year increase of 213.60 percent, giving the bank a much stronger earnings headline than its lending-rate update alone would suggest.
The same Q1 FY27 report placed gross non-performing assets at 2.78 percent, a reduction of 1.00 percentage point from the prior-year period. Net interest income rose 2.10 percent year on year to INR 10,798 crore from INR 10,578 crore, adding an operating comparison to the profit figure.
Q1 figures show a mixed operating picture
Upstox reported consolidated revenue of INR 37,953.75 crore for the quarter ended June 2026, up 2.92 percent from INR 36,878.02 crore in the March 2026 quarter. Consolidated profit rose to INR 5,339.15 crore from INR 5,225.12 crore over the same quarterly comparison.
The contrast matters for investors: profit growth was much faster than revenue growth, while operating profit slipped 0.47 percent quarter on quarter to INR 7,108.06 crore. The figures point to earnings improvement alongside a more measured top-line trend, making asset quality and funding costs important markers for the next report.
