- PMT reported a GAAP loss while adjusted earnings remained positive for the third quarter.

- Leadership changes are scheduled for 2027, including a new chief financial officer.
PennyMac Mortgage Investment Trust reported a mixed third quarter on October 29, 2026, combining a GAAP loss with positive adjusted earnings. In a Business Wire release, the mortgage real estate investment trust said market-driven valuation changes weighed on reported results for the quarter ended September 30.
GAAP loss contrasts with adjusted earnings
Net loss attributable to common shareholders was USD 36 million, or USD 0.41 per diluted share. Adjusted net income attributable to common shareholders reached USD 30 million, equivalent to adjusted earnings per share of USD 0.35. The adjusted figures are non-GAAP measures and are intended by the company to exclude market-driven value changes and other specified effects.
Management said widening mortgage spreads and sharply rising benchmark interest rates pressured portfolio fair values and reduced book value per share by 5% from the previous quarter to USD 14.03. The credit-sensitive strategies segment recorded a pretax loss of USD 42 million, while the interest-rate-sensitive strategies segment contributed USD 36 million of pretax income.
Buybacks move higher on capital agenda
The board approved a USD 130 million increase in the share-repurchase authorization, taking available capacity above USD 200 million. Management also said it expects to reduce the current dividend in favor of repurchases as capital is redirected from lower-yielding mortgage servicing rights toward private-label securitization investments.
PMT said it had sold or contracted to sell USD 35 billion in unpaid principal balance of mortgage servicing rights in recent periods. Its projected run-rate return potential increased to USD 0.38 per share, according to the company, although that outlook remains subject to market conditions and execution.
Leadership transition announced
Doug Jones, president and chief mortgage banking officer, is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2027. Kevin Ryan, currently chief strategy officer, is due to become chief financial officer on January 1, 2027, while Daniel Perotti will remain in his current role through the end of 2026 and then serve as an adviser through the first quarter of 2027.
Lang & Schwarz quoted the shares at EUR 6.60 on October 29, 2026, at 22:59 Berlin time. This is a euro-denominated market quote; no Xetra closing comparison is included here.
