- Pearl Abyss launched the first paid Crimson Desert expansion worldwide on October 30 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac.
- The add-on broadens the game with ocean exploration, underwater content, shipbuilding and additional storylines.
- Meritz Securities expects fourth-quarter revenue and operating profit to improve as the expansion tests demand beyond the base-game launch.
Pearl Abyss released the first paid expansion for Crimson Desert worldwide on October 30, adding a new commercial test for the South Korean game developer. Both the base game and the expansion reached Steam's global revenue charts on launch day, according to Finance Biggo.
Expansion widens the game world
The add-on, titled The Unknown Journey, extends the open-world action adventure with ocean and underwater exploration. Players can build ships, search for new islands, explore underwater ruins and pursue additional storylines involving Kliff, Wunga and Damiane.
The expansion also adds life-simulation elements such as relationship building, home construction and facility management. It is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Mac, while some of the new content requires progress through the base game's main story.
Sales momentum faces a new test
Steam revenue rankings offer an early signal of platform visibility but do not show unit sales or the share of new purchases. The expansion requires the base game, creating a potential bundling effect, while the longer-term contribution will depend on how well demand holds after the launch period.
Finance Biggo reported that Crimson Desert generated 402.6 billion Korean won in revenue during the first half of 2026. Pearl Abyss reported consolidated first-half revenue of 521.1 billion Korean won and operating profit of 279.7 billion Korean won, according to the same report.
Fourth-quarter earnings come next
Meritz Securities expects Pearl Abyss's fourth-quarter revenue at 159.4 billion Korean won and operating profit at 50.4 billion Korean won. The forecasts point to a stronger quarter than the third-quarter estimates, but the expansion's ability to sustain sales beyond its release window remains the central earnings question.
