- Third-quarter sales declined year over year while the company reported a net loss.
- Europe remained the main weakness as energy, freight and supply-chain costs weighed on performance.
- Management lowered its 2026 adjusted EBITDA outlook and outlined recovery measures.
O-I Glass reported weaker third-quarter results on October 27, 2026, as lower pricing, softer volumes and higher costs pressured the glass packaging maker. The company said the quarter ended September 30 with net sales of USD 1.62 billion and a net loss attributable to O-I of USD 13 million, compared with net income of USD 30 million a year earlier. The figures were reported in the company's third-quarter results announcement.
Europe weighs on quarterly performance
Shipments declined 2 percent from the prior-year period. According to Packaging Dive, European volumes fell 3.7 percent, while volumes in the Americas were down 1.3 percent year over year. Energy and freight costs in Europe exceeded expectations by USD 15 million, adding to pressure from commercial and supply-chain conditions.
O-I said its Fit to Win program generated USD 50 million of benefits in the quarter and USD 135 million year to date. The company is also working on net pricing, energy procurement, supply-chain execution and profitable volume growth. Management described Europe as its largest opportunity for improving financial performance.
Lower 2026 outlook
The company now expects full-year adjusted EBITDA between USD 925 million and USD 950 million. It also expects 2026 volumes to decline 3 percent to 4 percent from 2025. The revised outlook reflects softer demand, higher energy and freight costs, the U.S.-Canada trade dispute and a slower recovery in Europe.
For investors, the results point to a recovery story that remains dependent on execution in Europe and on cost control. The lower outlook also leaves less room for operational setbacks, even as management expects new business wins and restructuring benefits to support performance in 2027.
