NEPI Rockcastle stock remains in focus as the retail property group expands its renewable-energy platform in Romania. The project adds a new operating angle.

Renewable energy broadens operating focus

  • NEPI Rockcastle has completed its second large solar facility in Romania as it expands energy generation beyond shopping-centre rooftops.
  • The company expects renewable sources to cover 31% of its electricity consumption by the end of 2026, versus 6% in 2024.

NEPI Rockcastle has completed a new solar installation in Romania, according to CIJ.World in a report dated October 28, 2026. The facility in Aricestii Rahtivani, Prahova County, is the group's second large solar project in Romania and extends its energy activities beyond its shopping-centre portfolio.

The installation covers 75.5 hectares and was developed with Global Technical Systems. Its output is estimated at 73,000 MWh a year, while the company estimates potential annual carbon-dioxide reductions of 17,000 tonnes. Both figures are projections and will depend on weather, equipment performance and actual electricity generation.

Energy investment adds operating flexibility

The project forms part of a renewable-energy investment programme worth more than 100 million euros across NEPI Rockcastle's wider property portfolio. The company says renewable sources are expected to supply 31% of its total electricity consumption by the end of 2026, compared with 6% in 2024.

That shift could matter for a retail landlord because shopping centres require electricity for lighting, ventilation, cooling and other building systems. However, the financial effect is not yet quantifiable from the reported information: NEPI Rockcastle has not disclosed the facility's separate construction cost, production costs, expected returns or the allocation of output among individual properties.

The site includes infrastructure that could accommodate battery storage in the future, but no confirmed storage project, timetable or additional investment commitment has been announced. The longer-term contribution to operating costs and earnings will therefore depend on production, electricity prices, maintenance and grid arrangements.
